The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and largest non-governmental aviation safety organization, representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.

As an integral member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the staff focal point for the Training and Human Performance policy areas. This role provides expertise and support, coordinating activities related to human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned duties. The Coordinator also serves as a liaison between the Association and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations involved in these disciplines. Key functions include activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. The Coordinator works closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, as well as other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. ALPA is a member-driven, staff supported, union with two internal professional unions.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent combination of human performance and training, education, and experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
• Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
• Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
• Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management.
• Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands.
• Technical writing and presentation skills to communicate effectively with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives and stakeholders, and staff.
• Able to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
• Ability to answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Desired Qualifications:

• Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types (additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted).
• Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity.

Physical Demands:

The position requires the ability to operate a computer/smartphone/tablet constantly; maintain a stationary position; move about the office and local metropolitan area; determine what others have said or written; converse with others and exchange accurate information; sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about for travel (locally, nationally, and internationally). Occasionally may lift items up to 10 lbs. and luggage up to 50 lbs. while traveling.

Travel:

Up to 20% is required; sporadically, travel, local and national, could be as much as 25% of the time.

Projected Annual Salary Range:

$96,027.00 – $137,179.00
