The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and a leading non-governmental aviation safety organization representing over 79,000 pilots across 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its team in Tysons (McLean), Virginia.

Serving as an integral member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator acts as the primary staff focal point for policy areas related to Training and Human Performance. This vital role involves providing expertise and support, coordinating activities in human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned areas. The Coordinator serves as a key liaison between the Association and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations within these disciplines. Responsibilities also include supporting activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. The Coordinator works closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, alongside other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; or, the equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience is required in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
  • Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management are necessary.
  • Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills are required to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
  • Must be able to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
  • Requires participation, on a rotational basis, in answering calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, which includes coverage outside of standard business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
  • Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or within the industry segment in a relevant capacity is considered extremely helpful.

Travel:

Up to 20%; sporadically, local and national travel could be as much as 25% of the time.

Projected Annual Salary Range:

$96,027.00 – $137,179.00

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
