The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and a leading non-governmental aviation safety organization, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its team in Tysons (McLean), Virginia.
As a vital member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the primary staff liaison for policy areas related to Training and Human Performance. This role involves providing expert support and coordinating activities concerning human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned duties. The Coordinator acts as a crucial link between the Association and various governmental, industry, trade, and professional organizations pertinent to these disciplines. Responsibilities also include engaging in activities associated with the development and harmonization of global regulatory standards. Close collaboration is maintained with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its constituent groups, other technical teams, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
This position is designated as Exempt, Bargaining Unit 1 (EB), and is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. ALPA is a member-driven, staff-supported union with two internal professional unions.
Travel up to 20% is required, with sporadic local and national travel potentially reaching up to 25% of the time.

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of human performance, training education, and experience is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community are necessary.
- A thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) is required.
- A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be considered as a substitute for the licensing requirement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven time management abilities are required.
- Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or within the industry segment in a relevant capacity is highly beneficial.
- The ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills is necessary to communicate effectively with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives and stakeholders, and staff.
- The ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems is required.
- The ability to answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays, is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential physical activities. The role requires constant computer use, regular stationary positioning, movement within the office and local area, and clear communication/information exchange. Regular sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and movement for office activities and travel are necessary. Occasional lifting, raising, reaching, and retrieval of materials up to ten (10) pounds are required in the office. While traveling, the ability to move luggage weighing up to 50 lbs. is necessary (assistance may not always be available).

- A 401k Plan with a Non-Elective Employer Contribution of 12% plus a 2% contribution into a Market-Based Cash Balance Plan (MBCBP) after 180 days of employment. No employee contribution is required. The MBCBP has a 3-year cliff vesting period.

Projected Annual Salary Range: $96,027.00 – $137,179.00
