The Opportunity:
ALPA seeks an experienced and dedicated Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. This role serves as a critical staff focal point for policy areas related to Training and Human Performance within the aviation domain. The Coordinator provides expert support, coordinates vital activities, and acts as a liaison between ALPA and diverse governmental, industry, trade, and professional bodies focusing on human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned areas. Responsibilities also include actively contributing to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. The Coordinator collaborates closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its affiliated groups, other technical departments, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) throughout the ALPA structure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary staff point of contact for Training and Human Performance policy areas.
- Provide expertise, support, and coordinate activities related to human performance, pilot training, and human factors.
- Liaise with government agencies, industry stakeholders, trade associations, and professional organizations.
- Contribute to the development and harmonization of aviation regulatory standards globally.
- Work collaboratively with internal ALPA groups, including the ASO and MECs.
- On a rotational basis, respond to calls on the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including after hours, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience in human performance and training.
- Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and time management abilities.
- Proven technical writing and presentation skills suitable for communicating with Association members, officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- Ability to work independently, proactively identify issues, and respond effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types (additional aviation safety experience may substitute for licensing).
- Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or within a relevant industry segment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands.
Travel:
Up to 20%; sporadically, local and national travel could constitute as much as 25% of the time.

Salary Range:
Projected annual salary range is $96,027.00 – $137,179.00.
