Position Summary:
ALPA seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. This integral role serves as the primary staff focal point for the critical areas of Training and Human Performance policy. The Coordinator provides expert support, coordinates activities related to human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned areas, and acts as a liaison between the Association and relevant government, industry, trade, and professional organizations. Responsibilities include activities supporting the development and harmonization of worldwide regulatory standards and working closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its associated groups, other technical teams, and Master Executive Councils (MECs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff expert for Training and Human Performance policy areas.
- Provide expertise, support, and coordination for activities in human performance, training, and human factors.
- Act as a liaison between ALPA and government, industry, trade, and professional organizations.
- Support the development and harmonization of worldwide regulatory standards.
- Collaborate closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), technical groups, and MECs.
- Answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management.
- Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands.
- Technical writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types. (Additional aviation safety experience may be substituted for the licensing requirement).
- Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or within a relevant industry segment.
Travel:
Up to 20% travel is required, with the potential for local and national travel to sporadically reach up to 25%.

Salary Range:
Projected annual salary range is $96,027.00 – $137,179.00.
Additional Information:
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Relocation assistance is not provided. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The role requires constant operation of a computer/smartphone/tablet, regularly maintaining a stationary position, moving about the office and local area, communicating effectively, sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and traveling. Occasional lifting or moving of items up to ten pounds is required in the office, with the potential for lifting luggage up to 50 lbs during travel.
