Aviation Training and Standards Officer
This pivotal role ensures the highest standards of pilot training and competency within the organization. The successful candidate will design, implement, and evaluate training programs, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies, including the GCAA/CAA and IOSA. This position plays a critical role in maintaining operational safety and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and execution of effective and timely pilot training programs, aligning with operational needs and performance standards outlined in the Operations Manual Part (D).
- Oversee compliance with all GCAA/CAA regulations and quality requirements by instructors and trainees, emphasizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
- Collaborate with supervisors and managers to ensure comprehensive training encompassing theoretical and practical aspects, including initial and recurrent training, aircraft systems, simulator training, and Crew Resource Management.
- Identify training needs for flight crew, develop training schedules, monitor progress, and provide management with performance reports.
- As an approved Senior Flight Instructor (SFE), provide mentorship and guidance to training instructors through leadership courses, one-on-one coaching, and performance monitoring against established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Evaluate pilot competency and readiness, issuing appropriate certificates and maintaining accurate records of certifications and licenses, ensuring timely renewal to prevent suspension, disqualification, or penalties.
- Maintain and update the Flight Operations Manual, disseminating information to pilots and incorporating it into training courses to guarantee adherence to GCAA/CAA, IOSA, and other regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Chief Pilot and OCC Manager to ensure timely communication of training, licensing, and qualification updates to relevant personnel.
- Support the training team during internal and external audits, ensuring the availability, accuracy, and compliance of all related documents, reports, and records.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of a question bank for pilot selection and evaluation exams, and ensure the safety and readiness of training facilities, equipment, and testing materials.
- Support new hires during the induction program, providing guidance on Learning Management System (LMS) and simulator training, and conducting briefing sessions to assess pilot knowledge.
- Provide support to other hubs in evaluating training programs and instructors, and conduct training courses for third parties as needed, according to approved service level agreements and contracts.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Current or previous holder of a Commercial Pilot License (CPL), Multi-crew Pilot License (MPL), or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) in the appropriate aircraft category.
- Completion of a proficiency check for the relevant aircraft type rating in a Flight Training Device (FTD) representing the applicable type within the past 12 months.
- For Senior Flight Instructor (SFI) positions (SFI(A) for multi-pilot aeroplanes or SFI(PL)):
- Minimum 1,500 flight hours as a pilot on multi-pilot aeroplanes or powered-lift aircraft, as applicable.
- Completion, within the past 12 months, of at least:
- Three route sectors on the flight deck of the applicable aircraft type; or
- Two line-oriented flight training-based simulator sessions conducted by qualified flight crew on the flight deck of the applicable type. These sessions must include two flights of at least two hours each between two different aerodromes, and the associated pre-flight planning and debriefing.
