Airline Pilot Job Description
Job Purpose
The Pilot is responsible for conducting assigned flights in strict accordance with the Airline Operational Manual and all relevant civil aviation authority regulations. This critical role ensures the highest standards of safety, security, and efficiency are maintained throughout all operations. The Pilot provides essential support and guidance to both flight and cabin crew, skillfully manages emergencies and ad-hoc situations, and maintains full command of the aircraft to ensure successful performance and uphold the airline's positive corporate image.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates assigned aircraft from departure to destination according to established schedules and approved flight plans. The Pilot holds ultimate responsibility for the aircraft during assigned flights, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort in that order.

- Ensures all assigned flights adhere strictly to the detailed provisions of the Airline’s Operations Manual and applicable regulations, continuously implementing, monitoring, and maintaining procedures for safe and smooth aircraft operation.
- Confirms the timely attendance, proper grooming, fitness, and legal compliance of self and the entire Flight Crew for assigned flights. Conducts thorough pre-flight briefings to ensure all crew members are informed of flight details and confirms proper briefing procedures are followed prior to each action.
- Liaises effectively with co-pilots and the Dispatch Team before each flight to ensure flight and cabin crew are well-prepared and equipped with necessary information, including aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather conditions, fuel requirements, weight considerations, and distribution of roles.
- Manages aircraft operation to achieve optimal fuel efficiency during flight, while strictly adhering to safety constraints detailed in the Airline’s Operations Manual.
- Ensures assigned flight/cabin crew members perform required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks before, during, and after each flight. Takes decisive action and directs the crew's response to safety or security irregularities, determining when escalation is necessary.
- Collaborates with Maintenance Engineers to confirm aircraft technical status and suitability for flight. Engages with the Maintenance Control Center (MCC) and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities to address concerns, identify technical defects or issues, and implement immediate rectification or corrective measures where applicable.
- Ensures all required documents and technical logs, including the technical logbook, journey book, boarding sheets, and reports, are accurately completed and loaded as per Airline and civil aviation authority regulations and adopted procedures.
- Verifies that the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, maintained, kept up-to-date, understood, and strictly complied with by all Flight Crew members.
- Maintains current knowledge of legal requirements from various regulatory bodies, including the civil aviation authority, aircraft manufacturers like Airbus, and other relevant entities pertaining to flights and Flight Crew operations.
- Undertakes additional ground-based duties, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer roles, when directed by line management and in accordance with the provisions of the Airline’s Operations Manual.
Qualifications (Academic, Training, Languages)
- Must possess an appropriate Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
- Required to pass technical and psychometric assessments for Pilots according to Airline and respective civil aviation authority standards.
- Required to pass the Medical Fitness check-up for Pilots according to Airline and respective civil aviation authority standards.
- Essential training in safety and emergency response is required; a formal qualification in this area is advantageous.
- Basic training in airport, security procedures, and regulations is advantageous.
- Crew Resource Management (CRM) training is considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of IATA principles and standards relating to security is an advantage.
- Proficiency in aircraft systems and Microsoft Office is required.
- Demonstrates very good written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation abilities.
- Possesses a very good command of the English Language; proficiency in other local languages in the country of employment is advantageous.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 4000 hours of flying experience is required; Airbus A320 experience is preferred.
- Experience operating with a low-cost airline is highly desirable.
- Possesses sound industry knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Holds the necessary knowledge and exposure to effectively handle any other delegated roles, such as security or safety-related duties, as mandated by Airline and respective civil aviation authority regulations.
- Has exposure to Quality Assurance (QA), Safety, Security, and Audit procedures and practices relevant to and impacting Flight Operations.
- Capable of implementing policies, procedures, and manuals in accordance with approved standards and regulations.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment characterized by demanding schedules and ad-hoc scenarios.
- Exhibits composure, self-confidence, and focus, capable of handling emergencies and threats with efficiency.
- Proven skills in data analysis, identifying potential challenges, and recommending cost-effective solutions.
