Captain

As a Captain, this critical role is responsible for the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of all assigned flights. The Captain operates aircraft in strict accordance with the Airline Operational Manual and relevant civil aviation authority regulations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, operational efficiency are maintained throughout every flight. This position requires providing expert support and guidance to flight and cabin crew, effectively managing emergencies and ad-hoc scenarios, and taking decisive control to ensure successful flight performance and uphold the corporate image.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operates assigned aircraft on scheduled routes and approved flight plans, assuming ultimate responsibility for the aircraft during flight operations, prioritising:
    1. Safety
    2. Efficiency
    3. Passenger comfort
  • Ensures all assigned flights are conducted in full compliance with the detailed provisions of the Airline’s Operations Manual and applicable regulations. Implements, monitors, and maintains necessary procedures for safe and smooth aircraft operations.
  • Ensures personal and Flight Crew readiness, including timely attendance, proper grooming, physical fitness, and legal compliance for assigned duties. Conducts comprehensive pre-flight briefings to inform crew of flight details and ensures briefings occur prior to each action as per established procedures.
  • Collaborates closely with co-pilots (First Officer and Second Officer) and the Dispatch Team before each flight to ensure all crew members are prepared and informed regarding aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather, fuel requirements, weight and balance, and role distribution.
  • Optimises fuel efficiency during flight, operating within the safety constraints detailed in the Airline’s Operations Manual.
  • Oversees and ensures Flight/Cabin assigned crew members conduct all required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks before, during, and after each flight. Takes appropriate action and directs the crew in response to safety or security irregularities, deciding on necessary escalations.
  • Liaises with Maintenance Engineers, MCC, and MROs to confirm aircraft technical status and suitability for flight, addressing concerns, identifying defects, and implementing immediate rectification or corrective measures where applicable.
  • Ensures all required documents and technical logs are accurately completed and loaded, including the technical logbook, journey logbook, boarding sheets, and reports, in accordance with airline and civil aviation authority regulations and procedures.
  • Verifies that the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, maintained, kept up to date, understood, and complied with by all Flight Crew members.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements from civil aviation authorities, aircraft manufacturers (e.g., Airbus), and other relevant regulatory bodies pertaining to flight operations and Flight Crew.
  • May undertake additional ground-based tasks, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer duties, as directed by management and in accordance with the Airline’s Operations Manual.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory: Valid and appropriate Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
  • Mandatory: Successful completion of technical/psychometric assessments and medical fitness examinations as per airline and civil aviation authority standards.
  • Essential: Training in safety and emergency response. A formal qualification is an advantage.
  • Advantageous: Training in basic airport and security procedures and regulations.
  • Advantageous: Crew Resource Management (CRM) training.
  • Advantageous: Knowledge of IATA principles and standards relating to security.
  • Proficiency in Aircraft systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation abilities.
  • Very good command of the English Language. Proficiency in other local languages in the country of employment is an advantage.

Experience & Skills

  • A minimum of 4000 hours of total flying time is required.
  • Experience operating Airbus A320 aircraft is preferred.
  • Previous experience with a low-cost airline is highly desirable.
  • Possesses robust industry knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
  • Demonstrates the capability and knowledge to perform additional delegated roles, such as security or safety-related duties, as required by airline and civil aviation authority regulations.
  • Exposure to Quality Assurance (QA), Safety, Security, and Audit procedures and practices relevant to Flight Operations.
  • Proven ability to implement policies, procedures, and manuals in accordance with approved standards and regulations.
  • Capable of performing effectively in a dynamic environment with demanding workload schedules and managing ad-hoc scenarios efficiently.
  • Composed, self-confident, and focused, with the ability to handle emergencies and threats effectively.
  • Demonstrated skills in analysing data, identifying issues, and recommending cost-effective solutions.
  • Cost-oriented approach coupled with effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Possesses high accuracy and meticulous attention to both results and details.
  • Ability to leverage technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills to support the company's objectives.
  • Proven track record of contributing successfully to business strategy and achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
