Pilot (Captain) - Airbus A320
Job Purpose
The Pilot (Captain) is responsible for conducting assigned flights in strict accordance with the Airline Operational Manual and all applicable civil aviation authority regulations. This role ensures the utmost safety, security, and efficiency of all flights. The Captain provides guidance and support to flight and cabin crew, effectively manages emergencies and ad-hoc scenarios, and maintains overall control of the flight to guarantee successful performance and uphold a positive corporate image.
Key Responsibilities
- Pilots the assigned aircraft between destinations, adhering to schedules and approved flight plans. The Captain acts as the ultimate authority for the aircraft during flights, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
- Ensures all flights are conducted in compliance with the Airline’s Operations Manual and relevant aviation regulations, implementing and maintaining procedures for safe and smooth aircraft operations.
- Confirms timely attendance, appropriate grooming, and fitness for duty for all flight crew. Conducts comprehensive pre-flight briefings to ensure crew awareness of flight details and procedural adherence.
- Collaborates with co-pilots and the dispatch team to ensure flight and cabin crew are well-prepared, exchanging critical information including aircraft technical status, route details, weather, fuel, weight, and role distribution.
- Manages aircraft fuel consumption for maximum efficiency and effectiveness within safety parameters outlined in the Airline’s Operations Manual.
- Oversees essential safety, security, fuel, and transit checks performed by assigned crew members before, during, and after each flight. Directs crew response to safety or security irregularities and makes necessary escalation decisions.
- Cooperates with Maintenance Engineers to verify aircraft technical status and airworthiness. Liaises with the Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) and Maintenance Repair Organizations (MROs) to address potential concerns, defects, or technical issues, implementing rectifications as required.
- Ensures all required documents and technical logs are accurately completed and onboard as per airline and civil aviation authority regulations and procedures, including the technical logbook, journey book, boarding sheets, and reports.
- Maintains awareness and compliance of the Airline Operations Manual among the Flight Crew, ensuring distribution, accountability, and up-to-date understanding.
- Stays current with legal requirements from regulatory bodies, including civil aviation authorities, aircraft manufacturers (e.g., Airbus), and other relevant organizations concerning flights and flight crew.
- Undertakes additional ground-based responsibilities, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer, as directed by management and in line with the Airline’s Operations Manual.
Qualifications
- An appropriate Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is mandatory.
- Successful completion of the Airline's and relevant civil aviation authority's technical/psychometric pilot assessments.
- Successful completion of the Airline's and relevant civil aviation authority's medical fitness assessments for pilots.
- Formal training in safety and emergency response is essential; a formal qualification is advantageous.
- Basic training in airport and security procedures and regulations is advantageous.
- Crew Resource Management (CRM) training is considered an advantage.
- Familiarity with IATA principles and standards relating to security is advantageous.
- Proficiency in aircraft systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing and presentation abilities.
- Strong command of the English language; proficiency in other local languages of the country of employment is an advantage.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 4000 hours of aircraft flight experience is required, with preference for Airbus A320 experience.
- Experience with low-cost airlines is highly desirable.
- Possesses comprehensive industry knowledge of aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Demonstrates the necessary knowledge and exposure to handle delegated roles, including security or safety responsibilities as mandated by the Airline and civil aviation authority regulations.
- Exposure to Quality Assurance (QA), Safety, Security, and Audit procedures and practices relevant to Flight Operations.
- Capable of implementing policies, procedures, and manuals according to approved standards and regulations.
- Ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment with demanding schedules and unforeseen circumstances.
- Exhibits composure, self-confidence, and focus, with the capacity to handle emergencies and threats efficiently.
- Proven analytical skills for data interpretation, identification of issues, and recommendation of cost-effective solutions.
- Demonstrates a cost-conscious approach, coupled with effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
