Captain / Pilot - Aviation Operations
Overview
The Captain is responsible for conducting assigned flights in accordance with the Airline Operational Manual and applicable civil aviation authority regulations. This role demands ensuring the highest levels of safety, security, and efficiency on all operated flights. The Captain provides leadership and guidance to the flight and cabin crew, effectively manages emergencies and ad-hoc scenarios, and maintains control throughout the flight to ensure successful performance and uphold the corporate image.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates assigned aircraft between destinations according to schedule and approved flight plans, acting as the ultimate authority and being responsible for the aircraft and its occupants during flight. Key factors are prioritized as follows: Safety, Efficiency, and Passenger Comfort.
- Ensures flights are conducted in strict adherence to the airline's Operations Manual and regulatory requirements, continuously implementing, monitoring, and maintaining procedures for safe and smooth operations.
- Ensures timely attendance, professional presentation, physical fitness, and legal compliance for themselves and the flight crew before assigned flights. Conducts comprehensive pre-flight briefings to inform crew members of flight details and ensures briefings are properly conducted before each action according to established procedures.
- Coordinates with co-pilots (First Officer and Second Officer) and the Dispatch Team before each flight to ensure the flight and cabin crew are well-prepared and informed on aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather conditions, fuel requirements, weight and balance, distribution of duties, and other relevant details.
- Optimizes fuel efficiency during flight, within the safety constraints outlined in the relevant sections of the Airline's Operations Manual.
- Ensures required safety, security, fuel, and transit checks are performed by the assigned flight and cabin crew members before, during, and after each flight. Takes necessary action, directs the crew on responses to safety or security irregularities, and decides on escalations when required.
- Collaborates with Maintenance Engineers to confirm the aircraft's technical status and suitability for flight. Seeks support from MCC and MROs to address potential concerns, identify defects or technical issues, and implements rectification or corrective measures immediately where applicable.
- Ensures all necessary documents and technical logs are accurately completed and loaded according to airline and civil aviation authority regulations and procedures. This includes the technical logbook, journey logbook, boarding sheets, reports, and other required documentation.
- Confirms the Airline Operations Manual is distributed, accounted for, maintained, kept current, understood, and complied with by all Flight Crew.
- Stays current with legal requirements from relevant regulatory bodies, including civil aviation authorities, aircraft manufacturers (e.g., Airbus Company), and other applicable entities concerning flights and Flight Crew.
- May undertake additional ground-based duties, such as Safety Officer or Security Officer, as directed by the line manager and in accordance with the Airline's Operations Manual.
Qualifications & Training
- Appropriate Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is mandatory.
- Must successfully pass technical and psychometric assessments for Pilots in accordance with airline and respective civil aviation authority standards.
- Must pass the required Medical Fitness check-up for Pilots as per airline and respective civil aviation authority standards.
- Training in safety and emergency response is essential; a formal qualification is advantageous.
- Basic training in airport procedures, security procedures, and regulations is an advantage.
- Crew Resource Management (CRM) training is considered an advantage.
- Knowledge of IATA principles and standards relating to security is an advantage.
- Proficiency in aircraft systems and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary, including the ability to write technical reports and deliver presentations.
- Proficiency in the English Language is essential; proficiency in other local languages relevant to the country of employment is an advantage.
Work Experience
- Must have accumulated a minimum of 4000 hours of flying experience; Airbus A320 experience is preferred.
- Experience with a low-cost airline model is highly desirable.
- Possesses acceptable industry knowledge regarding aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Must possess the necessary knowledge and exposure to competently handle any delegated roles, such as security or safety-related duties, as required by airline and civil aviation authority regulations.
- Experience with Quality Assurance, Safety, Security, and Audit procedures and practices relevant to Flight Operations is beneficial.
- Capable of effectively implementing policies, procedures, and manuals according to approved standards and regulations.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment with demanding work schedules and unexpected scenarios.
