Position Summary

The Second In Command (SIC) Pilot for the Pilatus PC-12 will be based in Hawthorne, CA. This pivotal role involves providing a world-class travel experience for Advanced Air's diverse clientele, including passengers utilizing Essential Air Service communities and on-demand charter services. The position requires an exceptional ability to multitask, make high-level complex decisions, and execute a variety of aviation-related tasks while upholding the stringent standards of Advanced Air, LLC flight operations. The SIC Pilot will interact professionally with all charter customers, aircraft owners, and airline passenger travelers.

Key Responsibilities

The Second In Command Pilot's duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) during all phases of flight, strictly adhering to established operating policies and procedures.
  • Conducting comprehensive visual pre-flight and post-flight (walk-around) inspections prior to and after each flight.
  • Assuming primary responsibility for the safety of passengers, crewmembers, cargo, and the aircraft in the event of PIC incapacitation or inability to perform duties.
  • Holding primary operational responsibility for successfully completing all customer service aspects of each flight leg, as detailed in the policies and procedures manual.
  • Thoroughly reviewing and briefing the PIC on all customer service items, including but not limited to passenger pick-up/drop-off, refueling, customs procedures, private hangar communications requirements, and passenger catering.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Updating flight and duty records, determining eligibility for subsequent flight assignments, and meticulously reporting any aircraft maintenance discrepancies to the Captain in accordance with operating policies and procedures.
  • Participating proactively in safety and quality systems by identifying, reporting, and mitigating hazards and quality issues, providing timely input to management, and applying systemic processes to address concerns.
  • Performing other duties and/or special projects as assigned by the PIC, Chief Pilot, or higher authority.
  • Completing initial new-hire training, which encompasses all ground training curriculum segments in their entirety, with aircraft-specific ground training for the type(s) of aircraft in which the airman is to qualify. Flight training will cover all required events and maneuvers without waivers.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum flight experience requirements:
    • 900 hours total flight time.
    • 500 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
    • 25 hours multi-engine fixed-wing time.
    • 500 hours cross-country flight time.
    • 100 hours night flight time.
    • 75 hours instrumental flight time, of which 50 hours must be in actual flight.
  • FAA Commercial Airplane Multi-Engine Land Certificate.
  • CFI, CFII, and MEI Certificates are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Successful completion of an oral/written exam administered by an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman or a representative of the Administrator within the preceding 12 calendar months, as required by FAR 135.293(a).
  • Successful completion of a competency check administered in the type of airplane within the preceding 12 calendar months, conducted by an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman or an FAA Inspector, as required by FAR 135.293(b).
  • Completion of the 6-month IFR proficiency check given by an FAA inspector or an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman (FAR 135.297).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in enroute, arrival, and departure procedures by completing an enroute check (FAR 135.299) with an FAA inspector or an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity with aircraft maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated customer/client focus and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to multi-task effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Successful completion of FAA drug/alcohol screening and background checks, with willingness to submit to random drug tests as required.
  • Maintenance of a current FAA medical certificate as required by the company.
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces, manipulate, push, pull, and lift heavy objects in excess of 150 lbs.
  • Ability to safely climb onto and off an airplane wing for pre-flight, post-flight, or over-wing emergency exit procedures.
  • Possesses digital dexterity necessary for aircraft pre-flight and post-flight tasks.
  • Capability to execute flights of up to 4.5 hours, with total flight time not exceeding 10 hours per day within a 14-hour duty period.
  • A current U.S. Passport with at least 6 months validity remaining throughout the employment period.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation & Schedule

  • Annual salary of $55,000.
  • A 12-month training contract is required, commencing from the date of completion of initial training.
  • Flight crews operate on a mixed schedule of "Days On" and "Days Off," resulting in approximately 10 days off per month.
  • Pilots average 15 flying days per month and typically spend 8 to 12 nights away from base, depending on the schedule.
  • Pilots bid for days off based on seniority 14 days in advance, ensuring 10 meaningful, hard days off per month across 13 schedule periods annually.
  • "On" days require flight crews to be available for Advanced Air; days without assigned flying include a set "On Call" period, requiring proximity (within approximately two hours) to the airport and a fit-to-fly status.
  • "Days Off" do not require pilot availability for Advanced Air.
