Position Summary

Advanced Air, LLC is seeking a highly skilled and safety-oriented Second In Command (SIC) Pilot for its Pilatus PC-12 fleet, based out of Hawthorne, CA. This pivotal role supports the company’s Essential Air Service communities and on-demand charter operations, contributing to the provision of a world-class travel experience for all Advanced Air passengers. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to multi-task, make high-level complex decisions, and efficiently execute a variety of aviation-related tasks while upholding the stringent standards of Advanced Air, LLC’s flight operations and interacting professionally with charter customers, aircraft owners, and airline passenger travelers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) during all phases of flight, strictly adhering to operating policies and procedures.
  • Conduct thorough visual pre-flight and post-flight (walk-around) inspections for each flight.
  • Assume primary responsibility for the safety of passengers, crew members, cargo, and the aircraft in the event of PIC incapacitation or inability to perform duties.
  • Hold primary operational responsibility for successfully completing all customer service aspects of each leg, as detailed in the company’s policies and procedures manual.
  • Rigorously review and brief the PIC on all customer service items, including, but not limited to, passenger pick-up and drop-off, refueling logistics, customs procedures, private hangar communications, and passenger catering requirements.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), the Company Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Advanced Air Policies and Procedures.
  • Successfully complete all ground and flight training curriculum segments during initial new-hire training, specific to the type(s) of aircraft in which qualification is sought, without waiver of required events or maneuvers by a qualified flight instructor.
  • Maintain accurate flight and duty records, determine eligibility for subsequent flight assignments, and meticulously report any aircraft maintenance discrepancies to the Captain in accordance with operating policies.
  • Proactively participate in safety and quality management systems by identifying, reporting, and mitigating hazards and quality issues, providing timely input to management, and applying systems processes to address concerns.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Pilot-in-Command, Chief Pilot, or higher authority.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with Airplane Multi-Engine Land rating.
  • CFI, CFII, MEI Certificates are preferred, but not required.
  • Maintain a current FAA medical certificate as required by company regulations.
  • Current U.S. Passport with at least six months validity remaining throughout the employment period.

Flight Experience:

  • Minimum 900 hours total flight time.
  • Minimum 500 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
  • Minimum 25 hours multi-engine fixed-wing flight time.
  • Minimum 500 hours cross-country flight time.
  • Minimum 100 hours night flight time.
  • Minimum 75 hours instrument flight time, with at least 50 hours in actual flight conditions.

FAA Checks & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ability to successfully pass an oral/written exam administered by an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman or a representative of the Administrator within the preceding 12 calendar months, as required by FAR 135.293(a).
  • Ability to successfully complete a competency check administered in the type of airplane within the preceding 12 calendar months, conducted by an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman or an FAA Inspector, as required by FAR 135.293(b).
  • Completion of a 6-month IFR proficiency check conducted by an FAA inspector or an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman, as required by FAR 135.297.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in enroute, arrival, and departure procedures by completing an enroute check (FAR 135.299) with an FAA inspector or an FAA-approved Advanced Air, LLC Check Airman.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations (FARs).
  • Knowledge of aircraft maintenance procedures.

Compensation & Benefits

Advanced Air, LLC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support its valued flight crews:

  • Annual Salary: $55,000.00.
  • Training Contract: A 12-month training contract is required, commencing from the date of initial training completion.
  • Work Schedule: Flight crews operate on a mixed schedule of "Days ON" and "Days OFF," ensuring approximately 10 days off per month. Pilots average 15 flying days monthly and typically spend 8 to 12 nights away from base. Days off are bid 14 days in advance based on seniority, resulting in 10 guaranteed "hard days off" per calendar month. "On" days require availability for Advanced Air duties, which may include "On Call" periods requiring the pilot to be within two hours of the airport and in a fit-to-fly state. "Days Off" ensure no availability expectation from the company.

  • Per Diem: $2.45 per hour for all hours associated with Flight Duty.
  • Flight/Travel Benefits: Easy-to-use travel benefits; current contracts include Delta, Alaska, and Southwest Airlines.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The role necessitates the ability to perform duties in a dynamic aviation environment. This includes working in confined spaces, manipulating, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects exceeding 150 lbs, climbing onto and off an airplane wing (for pre-flight, post-flight, or over-wing emergency exit procedures), and demonstrating digital dexterity for aircraft pre-flight and post-flight tasks. Pilots must be capable of executing individual flights of up to 4.5 hours, totaling up to 10 hours of flight time within a 14-hour duty period. The work environment may involve exposure to constant or intermittent sounds on the airfield ramp, fluctuating between extreme temperatures (cold and heat), and operating at altitudes higher than sea level. All pilots participate in a crew environment emphasizing checklist usage and crew standardization for normal, abnormal, and emergency procedures.
