First Officer
Role Overview
The First Officer serves as the second-in-command, providing critical support to the Captain in all aspects of flight operations. This pivotal role involves executing assigned duties, strictly adhering to instructions, and sharing responsibility for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the aircraft. The First Officer is entrusted with contributing significantly to the safety, security, and well-being of the crew, passengers, cargo, and equipment, all while exemplifying integrity, leadership, and unwavering professionalism. The position demands upholding the highest operational standards, making ethical and decisive decisions in both normal and contingency operations, always under the Captain’s ultimate authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the Captain in maintaining ultimate responsibility and accountability for the safe operation of the aircraft, its crew, passengers, and cargo, ensuring strict compliance with UAE GCAA and international aviation regulations, flydubai policies and procedures, and industry best practices.
- Performs delegated flight duties with precision and in full compliance with flydubai policies, aviation regulations, and safety standards. The First Officer fosters a culture of professionalism and collaboration among the flight crew through effective leadership and Crew Resource Management (CRM), upholding flydubai’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.
- Executes all duties with precision and professionalism, adhering to flydubai’s Operations Manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and policies to ensure compliance and operational integrity. Proactively proposes alternative actions when needed, guided by sound CRM principles.
- Monitors aircraft systems, performance, and navigation diligently, promptly addressing any irregularities and ensuring strict adherence to the flight plan. Identifies, documents, and reports safety incidents, SOP breaches, or operational irregularities, proactively highlighting opportunities to enhance safety and efficiency. Ensures all reports are accurate, comprehensive, and submitted through appropriate channels in compliance with regulatory and flydubai requirements.
- Conducts thorough pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks to ensure the serviceability of emergency systems and flight deck equipment. Shares responsibility for the aircraft, passengers, crew, and operations from boarding to shut down, overseeing activities such as fueling and loading, and immediately alerts the Commander of any irregularities.
- Assists the Captain with responsibilities for the crew from the time of reporting for duty at the Base of Operations in Dubai, acting in a supportive role at outstations and during layovers. Contributes to the safe and efficient management of all aspects of the return sector(s) until release following post-flight duties upon return to Dubai.
- Supports the Captain, who as the aircraft Commander holds full accountability and responsibility for all operational decisions and the overall conduct of the flight, ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
- Represents flydubai as a dedicated brand ambassador by maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and appearance while on duty and in public. Supports the Captain in ensuring the crew consistently upholds the flydubai corporate and brand image, reporting any inconsistencies to the Captain and the company through established reporting mechanisms.
- Operates all flight duties in alignment with flydubai’s commercial objectives, expertly balancing operational efficiency with an unwavering commitment to safety and compliance with all regulatory requirements. Ensures that every decision made during flight operations supports the airline’s mission while maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety and operational excellence.
- Stays informed on the latest UAE GCAA and international aviation legislation, operational standards, and industry best practices. Proactively integrates this knowledge to ensure full legal compliance, adherence to procedures, and alignment with evolving industry trends and standards.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Fluency in English (both written and spoken).
- Minimum of 2,500 total flying hours.
- Minimum of 1,000 hours on modern (EFIS), multi-crew, multi-engine aircraft with an operating weight over 10 tons (Pilot in Command time preferred).
- Minimum of 1,500 Multi-Pilot Aircraft (MPA) hours flying time.
- Achieved ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or above.
- Holds an unrestricted Class 1 Pilot Medical Certificate from an ICAO Compliant State.
- Possesses an ICAO Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).

Information Security Responsibility (ISR)
The First Officer is required to read and comply with the Company's Information Security Responsibility (ISR) policies and diligently report any weaknesses or incidents to the respective Line Manager or the Information Security team. This includes completing all required ISR awareness sessions and following associated guidelines in day-to-day business operations.
