Direct Entry Captain - De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400)
WestJet Encore invites experienced pilots to join its team as a Direct Entry Captain, operating state-of-the-art De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprop aircraft. This permanent, full-time hourly position is based primarily in Calgary, Alberta, with domestic flights within Canada and limited service to the United States.
Responsibilities
As a WestJet Encore Direct Entry Captain, you will:
- Operate the Q400 in strict adherence to regulations and standards set by Transport Canada, the aircraft manufacturer, and WestJet Encore.
- Uphold the highest safety standards, ensuring crew members comply with all regulations and company requirements during all phases of flight.
- Lead by example, demonstrating integrity and fostering effective communication among crew members and guests.
- Contribute to a dynamic team environment, collaborating with the Operations Control Centre.
- Deliver an exceptional WestJet guest experience, prioritizing safety and on-time operations.
- Maintain a high level of flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing operational and business demands.
- Demonstrate a commitment to upholding WestJet values and professionalism.

Requirements
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL)
- 2000 hours total time (fixed-wing aircraft)
- 250 hours fixed-wing pilot-in-command time
- 500 flight hours under CARs 705, or equivalent*
- Valid Transport Canada Group 1 Instrument Rating and Class 1 Medical Certificate
- Legally entitled to work in Canada (must hold Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or open work permit with PR application in process)
- Primary residence must be in Canada and eligible to obtain and maintain provincial health care
- All required visas or travel documents allowing for unrestricted travel
- Clear police background and criminal record check
- Oral and written proficiency in English
- Offers of employment are conditional on passing a pre-employment alcohol and drug screening test
- Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC) obtained prior to the completion of Initial Ground School
Candidates with experience and additional qualifications exceeding minimum requirements will be given preference. Examples of additional qualifications include multi-engine, multi-crew, internal WestJet experience, or graduation from one of our partner schools.
*Experience that will be considered equivalent to CARs 705 includes, but is not limited to, Part 121 or European Airline, heavy military transport/multi-engine, large corporate PIC operating under CARs 704, high performance multi-engine aircraft PIC operated under CARs 704 or multi-engine/multi-crew in aircraft over 25,000lbs.
Compensation and Benefits
A competitive compensation package will be offered in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Additional total rewards include:
