E190-E2 Project – Pilot Training Lead

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. And we’re back (in a big way).

We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. For us, flying is so much more than simply taking off and landing (although we understand that is quite important). It’s about going the extra mile, in the air and on the ground, to create authentic experiences that put our guests firmly at the heart of everything we do.

About Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA)

VARA operates out of Perth Airport and has a fleet of F100 and A320 aircraft that predominantly conduct charter operations throughout regional Western Australia. VARA is on a growth path and has a strong focus on supporting our major clients in the mining industry - the future is exciting!

The VARA Flight Operations Training and Standards Division plays a crucial role in this expansion by managing, overseeing, and controlling flight crew standards to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant flight operations. The division is responsible for training and assessing crew members to meet the defined company competency standards and ensuring they maintain this level of proficiency.

About the role:

As the Pilot Training Lead you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive training plan in alignment with CASA regulations and company policies. You work closely with the Program Manager and Head of Training and Standards (HOTS) to oversee all aspects of training operations, ensuring that the new fleet's entry into service (EIS) is both efficient and effective. You will be based in Perth and report through to the VARA Head of Flight Operations/Program Manager.

You will use your Aviation experience to design and adapt training plans for all crew members, investigate and resolve training incidents, and contribute to the continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and systems.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the successful introduction and implementation of the training program for the new fleet type, ensuring the first-of-type success within the business.
  • Oversee the integration of the E190-E2 fleet in line with CASA regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training plan to meet the timelines for the E190-E2 Entry into Service.
  • Ensure the fleet's consistent, safe, and efficient performance by overseeing technical procedures and policies for both flight and cabin crew.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the E190-E2 aircraft training delivery.
  • Interpret, implement, and monitor operating procedures at approved simulator facilities.
  • Keep the Program Manager, Head of Flight Operations (HOFO), and HOTS informed of significant issues or concerns within the training system, and provide solutions for resolution.

You’ll be great in this role if you have:

  • CASA ATPL(A) license
  • Valid CASA Class 1 Medical
  • Experience as a Captain in a Part 121 Air Transport Operation
  • Experience in conducting training or checking activities within a Part 121 Air Transport Operation
  • Equivalent management experience, particularly in Part 121 training organisations, including program development.
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills across business units, AOCs, and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of CASA regulations and industry standards, specifically Parts 61, 119, 121, 142, and associated MOS.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, building strong and lasting relationships.
  • Ability to work creatively in a constrained environment where “best practice” and maturity is still evolving.
  • Strong ability to remain focused on delivering to the plan but remaining flexible and adaptive to change as required.

What you’ll get from us:

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Heavily discounted air travel for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
