Flight Attendant
United Airlines is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. As a Flight Attendant, the individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of passengers while providing exceptional customer service. Responsibilities:
- Ensure the highest levels of safety and security on board the aircraft.
- Adapt and respond effectively to diverse customer-facing scenarios, demonstrating optimism and positivity.
- Engage directly with customers, utilizing strong interpersonal skills, good judgment, and compassion to resolve issues and foster loyalty.
- Represent United Airlines with pride and distinction.
- Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from base for extended periods.
- Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED required; two or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and audibly in emergency situations.
- Fluency in English (written, spoken, and comprehension) is essential. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable, particularly Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance and adherence to grooming standards, uniform guidelines, and policies regarding hair, tattoos, and piercings. Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, or neck. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not exceed the size of a credit card (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered by a standard uniform piece and cannot be offensive. Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops).
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United Airlines without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (e.g., luggage), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and varying hours, supporting United's 24/7 operation.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check.
Training and Compensation:
New Flight Attendants will participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a $140/week per diem, accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. Upon successful completion of training, individuals will be assigned to one of United's hub locations: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or another flight attendant base.
The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88/hour, with potential to reach $67.11/hour based on seniority. Additional compensation is available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
