Training:
The initial career training involves a 6.5-week program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a $140/week per diem, accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. Upon successful completion, the Flight Attendant will be assigned to one of United's hub locations: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or one of its other flight attendant base locations.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly in emergency situations.
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding). Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable. Second language fluency such as Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Tagalog are used at United and are an asset.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effective communication skills in high-stress situations.
- Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and adherence to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.).
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be willing to serve food and beverages (including alcohol) professionally.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water during training.
- Pass pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history.
