Responsibilities:
The Flight Attendant's primary responsibilities revolve around ensuring passenger safety and providing exceptional customer service. This includes:
- Ensuring the highest levels of safety and adherence to safety regulations.
- Adapting to various customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity.
- Engaging directly with customers, utilizing interpersonal skills to resolve issues with understanding and grace, thereby fostering customer loyalty.
- Representing United Airlines with pride and professionalism.
- Being available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for extended periods.
- Working independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Crafting memorable experiences for customers on every flight.
Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the following qualifications and requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED; two or more years of college are preferred.
- Must have at least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (such as retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, or social service).
- Must be able to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly in order to be heard during an emergency.
- Must have the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must have the ability to speak, read, and write Greek fluently.
- Must be able to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Must be able to effectively communicate in high-stress situations.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and adhere to grooming standards, as well as uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. You are permitted to have visible tattoos on your arms, wrists, legs, and feet. Any visible tattoos may not be larger than a credit card / employee badge (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or they must be covered with standard uniform pieces. It is also important that your visible tattoo is not offensive (this includes but is not limited to tattoos that are violent, obscene, sexual, racist or contain objectionable content or any imagery that includes weapons).
- Decorative covers, adornments and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Must have the ability to proficiently operate electronic devices.
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining prior to its expiration.
- Must have the ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without any restrictions.
- Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs).
- Must be able to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach).
- Must be able to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be willing to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation.
- Flight attendant trainees must successfully complete an evacuation drill in the water (pool) during training.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check.
Training and Compensation:
New Flight Attendants will participate in an initial 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, where they will learn United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a \$140/week per diem, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. Upon successful completion of training, individuals will be assigned to one of United's hubs or base locations.
The starting hourly flight pay is \$28.88/hour, with top of base scale at \$67.11/hour. Pay increases are based on seniority, with additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus.
