Flight Attendant

The Flight Attendant is responsible for maintaining the highest levels of safety and demonstrating a "People-First" approach in all interactions. They will engage directly with customers, utilizing outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding and grace. The successful candidate will represent United with pride and strive to foster customer loyalty through excellent service. Flexibility is essential, as Flight Attendants must be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Dependability and timeliness are critical to maintaining operational schedules and meeting customer expectations.

- Be available for global assignments on a 24/7 basis, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from base for extended periods.
- Serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED; 2 or more years of college preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, loud enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to read and speak Dutch fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effectively communicate in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted if they are no larger than a credit card or covered with standard uniform pieces and are not offensive.
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficient in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.).
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining prior to its expiration.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage), and push/pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United’s 24/7 operation.
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water (pool) during training.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana is prohibited.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal background history, that does not prohibit travel to or from any United destination.
Benefits:
United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package, including a starting hourly flight pay of $28.88, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour. Seniority-based pay increases and additional compensation are provided for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
