- Serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, social services).
- Must be able to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly in English to be heard in an emergency.
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Must be able to read and speak Greek fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effectively communicate in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations, security threats, medical emergencies, severe weather, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to excellent grooming standards, and comply with uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must not be larger than a credit card (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or must be covered with standard uniform pieces and must not be offensive.
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops).
- Possession of a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining prior to its expiration.
- Unrestricted ability to travel to and from all countries United serves. Flight attendant applicants are responsible for identifying and verifying travel eligibility.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule supporting United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check.
Training:
New Flight Attendants will participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a $140/week per diem, accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training.
Compensation and Benefits:
The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88/hour, progressing to $67.11/hour at the top of the base scale. Additional compensation is provided for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
