Flight Attendant

Flexibility is paramount, as United's Flight Attendants must be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. They fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and may be away from their base for days at a time. Dependability and timeliness are critical to success in this role and to operating the schedule while meeting customer expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the highest levels of safety and security for all passengers.
- Provide exceptional customer service, attending to passenger needs and requests with attentiveness and care.
- Effectively communicate with passengers in routine and emergency situations.
- Serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
- Work independently and as part of a team to create a positive and collaborative environment.
- Adhere to uniform and grooming standards, maintaining a professional appearance.
- Proficiently operate electronic devices for completion of required tasks.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, food service, teaching, aviation, social services).
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Must be able to read and speak Italian fluently.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely, ensuring audibility in emergency situations.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months validity remaining.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts.
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment of 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal background history.
Training:
New hires will participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a stipend, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. Upon successful completion of training, candidates will be assigned to one of United's hubs or other flight attendant base locations.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour.
- Seniority-based pay increases and additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
