Flight Attendant

The Flight Attendant is responsible for maintaining the highest levels of safety and exhibiting a "People-First" demeanor, adapting to diverse customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity. Direct engagement with customers requires outstanding interpersonal skills, good judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding, compassion, and grace. The successful candidate will influence customer loyalty through excellent service.
Flexibility is paramount, as United's Flight Attendants must be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. The role requires fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for extended periods. Dependability and timeliness are critical to success. The Flight Attendant will consistently demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED; 2 or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service).
- Must be able to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
- Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
- Must be able to read and speak Dutch fluently.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Ability to effectively communicate in high-stress situations.
- Professional appearance and willingness to follow uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are NOT permitted on the head, hands, or neck. Other visible tattoos must meet size and content restrictions.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices.
- Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions. Flight attendant applicants are responsible for identifying and verifying travel eligibility.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull a beverage cart.
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal).
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Ability to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation.
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water during training.
- Must be willing to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Must be able to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal background history, that does not prohibit travel to or from anywhere United flies.
Compensation and Benefits:
The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88/hour, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour. Seniority-based pay increases and additional compensation are available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. New hires will participate in a 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, learning United's safety and customer service standards. United provides a $140/week per diem, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus. Upon completion of training, Flight Attendants will be assigned to one of the hub locations: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or one of United's other flight attendant base locations. (Relocation funds are not provided).
