Flight Attendant
United Airlines is seeking dedicated and customer-focused individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. The Flight Attendant's primary responsibility is to ensure the highest levels of safety on board the aircraft. They will adapt and respond to diverse customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity, using excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment, and compassion to resolve issues and foster customer loyalty. The successful candidate represents United with pride and distinction.
Flexibility is paramount, as Flight Attendants must be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. They will fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and may be away from their base for days at a time. Dependability and timeliness are critical to success in this role.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service, etc.).
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly in emergency situations.
- Fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding). Proficiency in a second language, such as Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, or Tagalog, is highly desirable.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Effective communication skills in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck (including behind the ear) and any visible tattoos cannot exceed the size of a credit card.
- Proficient operation of electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.).
- Valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (luggage), and push/pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol).
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United’s 24/7 operation (weekdays, weekends, holidays, etc.).
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water during training.
- Willingness to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana is prohibited.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal history, which must not prohibit travel to or from anywhere United flies.
Compensation and Benefits:
United Airlines offers a competitive compensation package, including a starting hourly flight pay of $28.88 with top of base scale at $67.11/hour. Seniority-based pay increases and additional compensation are available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.

Training:
New hires will participate in a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, focusing on United's safety and customer service standards. A $140/week per diem, accommodations, breakfast, and lunch are provided during training. Upon successful completion, graduates will be assigned to one of United's hub locations (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or another flight attendant base location. A $1,000 bonus will be awarded upon successful completion of training.
