Flight Attendant
United Airlines is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join its team as Flight Attendants. As a Flight Attendant, the individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of passengers while providing exceptional customer service. Responsibilities:
- Ensure the highest levels of safety and security on board the aircraft.
- Adapt and respond effectively to diverse customer needs and scenarios.
- Provide direct engagement with customers, demonstrating outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding, compassion, and grace.
- Influence customer loyalty through excellent service and represent United Airlines with pride and distinction.
- Be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from base for extended periods.
- Work both independently and as a collaborative team member.
- Serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a diligent and professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college is preferred.
- Minimum of one year of customer service experience in a service-oriented industry such as retail, hospitality, food service, education, aviation, or social services.
- Ability to speak clearly, concisely, and loudly enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Fluent in English with the ability to speak, read, write, and understand effectively. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable (Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Tagalog).
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Communicate effectively in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Maintain a professional appearance, adhere to excellent grooming standards, and comply with uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet must be no larger than a credit card (3.5 inches long x 2.24 inches wide) or be covered by standard uniform pieces and must not be offensive.
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiently operate electronic devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops, for task completion.
- Possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage), and push and pull a beverage cart (up to 250 lbs.).
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes, to operate necessary equipment, machinery, and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willing and able to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in water during training.
- Willingness to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens; medical and recreational marijuana use is prohibited.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check without restrictions on travel to countries served by United.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour.
