Flight Attendant
United Airlines is seeking a highly motivated and customer-centric individual to join its team as a Flight Attendant. As a Flight Attendant, the individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of passengers while providing exceptional service on domestic and international flights. The Flight Attendant will be part of a global team of over 100,000 professionals dedicated to leading the way forward in the airline industry.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring the highest levels of safety and security for all passengers and crew members.
- Adapting and responding effectively to diverse customer-facing scenarios with optimism and positivity.
- Engaging directly with customers, demonstrating outstanding interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to resolve issues with understanding, compassion, and grace.
- Influencing customer loyalty through the delivery of excellent service, representing United Airlines with pride and distinction.
- Being available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, fulfilling reserve assignments on short notice and being away from base for extended periods.
- Working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Serving and/or selling food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
- Effectively communicating in high-stress situations, such as aircraft evacuation, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) proficiently to complete required tasks.
- Standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting heavy objects (such as luggage), and pushing and pulling beverage carts.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; two or more years of college are preferred.
- A minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (retail, hospitality, food, teaching/education, aviation, social service, etc.).
- Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, loud enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable, including Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Tagalog.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Professional appearance, excellent grooming standards, and willingness to adhere to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are permitted on arms, wrists, legs, and feet, provided they are not larger than a credit card/employee badge and are not offensive. Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck.
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Must possess a valid passport prior to application with at least 18 months of validity remaining before its expiration.
- Current physical possession of a valid U.S. passport book or foreign passport book with applicable visas and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without any restrictions.
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous) without shoes.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule in support of United’s 24/7 operation, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, etc.
- Successful completion of an evacuation drill in the water (pool) during training.
- Willingness to complete pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check, including criminal background history, which does not prohibit travel to or from any location United serves.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting hourly flight pay of $28.88/hour, with top of base scale at $67.11/hour.

Training:
- The Flight Attendant will participate in a 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, to learn United's safety and customer service standards.
- United provides a $140/week per diem, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training.
- Successful training graduates will receive a $1,000 bonus.
- Following successful completion of training, the Flight Attendant will be assigned to one of United's hub locations: Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles, or one of United's other flight attendant base locations. (Relocation funds not provided).
