Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
- High school diploma or equivalent; two or more years of college preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience in a service industry setting, such as retail, hospitality, food service, teaching/education, aviation, or social service.
- Excellent communication skills; must be able to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, loudly enough to be heard in an emergency.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Fluency in German is required.
- Ability to effectively communicate in high-stress situations, including aircraft evacuations, security threats, delays, medical emergencies, severe weather conditions, and turbulence.
- Professional appearance and adherence to uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Tattoos are not permitted on the head, hands, or neck, including behind the ear. Visible tattoos on arms, wrists, legs, and feet are permitted, provided they are no larger than a credit card and are not offensive.
- Decorative covers, adornments, and/or jewelry on teeth or in the mouth are not permitted.
- Proficiency in operating electronic devices (phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) for completing required tasks.
- Valid passport with at least 18 months of remaining validity prior to expiration.
- Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United Airlines without restrictions.
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects (such as luggage to overhead bins or window exits), and push and pull beverage carts (up to 250 lbs.).
- Successful completion of a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach (simultaneous), without shoes on, to operate necessary equipment, machinery, and doors.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages (including alcohol) in a diligent and professional manner.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and other non-standard hours, to support United's 24/7 operations.
Onboarding and Training:
- Successful completion of a 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, covering United's safety and customer service standards.
- Successful demonstration of an evacuation drill in the water (pool) during training.
- Completion of pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Passing DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens. Medical and recreational marijuana are prohibited due to the safety-sensitive nature of the Flight Attendant position.
- Passing a 10-year background check, including criminal background history.
