The Bell Flight Operations team is seeking a Chief Experimental Test Pilot to lead Bell’s team of experimental and engineering test pilots, engineering flight test unit member pilots, and certification delegate pilots in the United States and Mirabel, Canada.The Chief Experimental Test Pilot will lead the pilot team toplan, execute, and report on experimental flight test in tiltrotor aircraft and helicopters, both manned and unmanned.The Chief Experimental Test Pilot will be an active experimental test pilot conducting flight test operations, maintaining flight currency, and traveling in support of program objectives.
This position resides at the Flight Research Center, Arlington, TX.
Job Responsibilities
The Chief Experimental Test Pilot will provide advice and guidance to all company experimental and engineering test pilots to ensure all flight operations are accomplished in a safe, timely, and efficient manner to achieve program goals.
* Be the company pilot expert on experimental flight test and flight test execution.
* Interface and maintain a close working relationship with the company program managers, chief engineers, and engineering leads to ensure program schedule execution leading to successful aircraft certification.
* Ensure ground and flight testing of experimental test aircraft is conducted in a safe and efficient manner by being a key leader in the flight test risk management process, overseeing daily operations, and planning for future flight test needs.
* Be an active participate in experimental flight test to understand program issues and concerns and be able to represent those concerns to executive leadership.
* Professionally represent Flight Operations to internal and external customers.
* Coordinate with internal and external customers to ensure appropriate pilot coverage for all test events, regulatory meetings, program meetings, and simulator sessions.
* Stay abreast of current trends and the state of the art within experimental flight test and lead the pilot staff in the same arena.
* Develop engineering pilots through a robust and thorough process to qualification as experimental pilots.
* Lead the engineering and experimental pilot hiring process and make appropriate recommendations to the Director, Flight Research Center.
* Maintain personal flight proficiency.
Qualifications
* Graduate of a US Military recognized test pilot school.
* Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
* 10 years of flight test experience.
* 20 years as a helicopter or tiltrotor pilot.
* 3000 flight hours.
* FAA Commercial Rotorcraft or Powered-Lift pilot with Instrument ratings.
* FAA Class I or II medical certificate.
* US Citizen.
* Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally in support of test programs.
* Ability to obtain a secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master of Science in Engineering.
* CFI/CFII.
* Experience as a key leader in a major aircraft development program.
