Responsibilities
Sun Country Flight Attendants ensure safety and security standards are met while promoting high levels of customer service. They are responsible for:
- Ensuring the safety, security, and comfort of our customers
- Complying with mandated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations
- Following all Federal Aviation Regulations and Sun Country Airlines policies
- Conducting preflight safety checks of the cabin and emergency equipment
- Responding effectively during emergency situations
- Selling onboard liquor, food, and other amenities
- Preparing and serving meals and beverages according to service standards
- Responding to customer illness and injury and administering first aid
- Diffusing situations with unruly or upset customers and maintaining order in the cabin
- Conducting all tasks in a safe and efficient manner complying with all local, state and federal safety and health regulatory requirements, programmatic standards, and with any internal policies and procedures identified by Sun Country Airlines
- Performing any other duties assigned by management
Compensation and Benefits
- Monthly Guarantee: A monthly guarantee of 72.5 flight hours at a rate of pay of $21.53.
- Union Representation: Sun Country Flight Attendants are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
- Compensation Schedule: The compensation schedule is based on the collective bargaining agreement.
Uniform and Relocation
- Uniforms: Flight Attendants are responsible for the purchase of their first uniform and luggage, approximately $700-$1000, which may be payroll deducted once employed by the Company.
- Relocation: Relocation costs are solely the responsibility of the Flight Attendant.
Work Schedule
- Scheduled Operations: Sun Country Airlines is a scheduled passenger airline that operates 365 days a year. As a Flight Attendant, you will be assigned to various shifts which will include weekends, evenings, holidays, and "red-eye" type hours. Shifts are bid monthly and awarded based on seniority.
- Reserve Status: As a "reserve" (on call) Flight Attendant, you must be able to be at the airport in as little as 2 hours after being notified of an assignment. You will be scheduled with 10 days off per month; on the other days, you will be on call and must be immediately available by phone.
- Line Holding Status: As a line holding Flight Attendant, you will be scheduled with a minimum of 13 days off per month.
Training
- Training Class: The Training Class is approximately 5 weeks, onsite, at our training facility in Minneapolis, MN. Travel and lodging accommodations during training are provided by Sun Country Airlines. To become a Flight Attendant, you must successfully complete the training. While this is an unpaid training class, upon successful completion, a $1,000 learning stipend will be paid out.
Required Qualifications
- Passport: Must have a passport with at least 6 months validity prior to the start of training. Ability to travel in and out of the USA and Canada, as well as cities/countries served by Sun Country Airlines.
- Drug Testing: Ability to pass all drug testing in compliance with the FAA.
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Customer Service Experience: Minimum of two years of direct customer service experience.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer knowledge.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, write, understand, and clearly speak in English.
- Age: Must be 20 years or older at the end of initial training.
- Height: Must be able to reach 80 vertical inches, without shoes, to operate all necessary equipment and systems.
- Physical Abilities: Must be able to kneel to operate the mechanism of the aircraft door and perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently, yet work well with others as part of a team.
- Dependability: Excellent dependability and a strong work ethic.
- Emergency Response: Ability to remain calm and respond to emergency situations including aircraft evacuations, in-flight fires, bomb threats, unusual situations, and turbulence.
- Passenger Care: Ability to manage emergencies and care for passengers under duress.
- Alertness: Constant alertness and ability to act in emergency situations.
- Altitude Tolerance: Able to endure repetitive variances in altitude and cabin pressure.
- Relocation: Ability to relocate to within 2 hours of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) while on "reserve" (on call) status.
- Travel: Ability to be away from home for up to six (6) nights in a row.
- Reserve Availability: Ability to work "reserve" (on call) status for extended periods.
- Jump Seat: Fully fit into FA jump seats and secure the seat belt/shoulder harness assembly without modification in any manner to achieve closure.
- Vision: Have enough vision to safely perform the essential functions of the position.
- Hearing: Have enough hearing acuity to communicate with co-workers and passengers.
- Schedule Flexibility: Able to meet the demands of a vigorous and varied schedule.
- Stamina: Stamina appropriate to the duty requirements.
- Appearance: Must present a neat and professional appearance, including adhering to Sun Country Airlines uniform and appearance standards. No visible tattoos and body piercings.
Preferred Skills
- Previous Flight Attendant experience.
Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a pressurized aircraft for an extended period. During this time, the employee will be exposed to loud and distracting sounds and noise levels. While the cabin of the aircraft is pressurized, the employee will be exposed to recycled air. This position requires extensive travel; therefore, employees must be able to spend consecutive nights away from home and endure all climates.

- Standing and Walking: The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands or finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- Sitting, Climbing, and Stooping: The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Lifting and Moving: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. In addition, the employee must be able to frequently push and pull carts with weights between 100-250 pounds.
- Aircraft Door Operation: This position is also required to have the ability to open and close the aircraft door in normal/emergency mode.
- Vision Abilities: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
