Primary Responsibilities:
The primary focus of a SkyWest Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during flight. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Guaranteeing the safety and comfort of customers while onboard the aircraft.
- Cultivating a positive and productive work atmosphere for both colleagues and passengers.
- Efficiently preparing, serving, and replenishing in-flight beverages, meals, and snacks, as well as handling the sale of onboard liquor and food.
- Welcoming passengers, assisting with carry-on baggage stowage, and delivering informative onboard announcements.
- Providing effective leadership and assistance during both emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Calmly addressing passenger concerns during flight, including managing disruptive behavior and responding to medical emergencies.
- Ensuring compliance with all safety regulations through inspecting and operating cabin components, systems, and emergency equipment, such as escape slides, fire extinguishers, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
- Adhering to established procedures and maintaining performance standards with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Applicants must hold a current, valid U.S. or foreign passport that remains valid for at least 12 months following the application date, as well as any required visas to travel between the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
- Demonstrates excellent English communication skills to relay safety information to passengers and produce clear, factual, and detailed reports pertaining to irregular, emergency, and security events.
- Comfortable using basic electronic device functions and PEDs to manage audio/video systems, in-flight purchases, and other operational duties.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, up to 16 hours in duration.
- Ability to travel frequently and spend lengthy periods of time alone, operating independently.
- Reliable, punctual, and dedicated to maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Must be willing to relocate to one of SkyWest’s crew domiciles, which are assigned after successfully completing InFlight Training. Crew domiciles include: Atlanta, GA; Boise, ID; Chicago, IL; Colorado Springs, CO; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Fresno, CA; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; Palm Springs, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; and Tucson, AZ.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Height must be between 5’0” and 6’0” without shoes to ensure the safe operation of the aircraft. Weight must be proportional to height. Must be able to maneuver safely within the cabin.
- Must be physically able to perform tasks that require frequent walking, bending, and reaching, as well as be able to open emergency exits and aircraft doors (up to 45 pounds), push and pull beverage carts (up to 250 pounds), and lift/transport items with or without accommodation.
- Corrected vision should not exceed 20/40.
- Normal or corrected hearing within a 15-17kHz range.
- Maintains a professional, neat, and clean overall appearance.
- No extreme hairstyles or colors are permitted.
- Single stud nose piercings (2mm or smaller) are permitted. Two ear piercings are allowed per ear. Gauges must be plugged with clear or skin-toned plugs and not exceed ½”. Other facial, mouth, or tongue piercings are not permitted.
- Visible tattoos are allowed within specified guidelines (location and size); those outside these specifications must be covered by the uniform or with skin-tone compatible makeup. Bandages are not an accepted form of tattoo coverage. Offensive tattoos are not allowed to be visible.
- Must wear a company-issued uniform and compliant face mask/covering.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Flight Hours: Upon completion of Initial New Hire Training, a minimum of 76 flight hours per month are guaranteed as a reserve (paid for 76 flight hours regardless of actual hours flown).
- Pay: Starting pay is $28.86 per flight hour, resulting in a base compensation of $2,193.36 gross per month. Note, that this does not include per diem, boarding pay or any flight hours beyond the monthly guarantee.
- Per Diem: An additional $2.25 per diem is paid for every hour on duty away from one’s assigned domicile.
