POSITION PURPOSE

Oversees Flight Operations ensuring aircraft are operated to the highest level of safety and that all crew members always maintain professional standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Leads, manages, and directs pilots and Base Chief Pilots to ensure the highest standards of safety, efficiency, professionalism and quality of Flight Operations.
  • Aids or counseling as appropriate to ensure the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of Flight Operations.
  • Coordinates with the Managing Director/Director of Operations to establish and adhere to appropriate training standard sand scheduling.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of Republic’s policies, procedures and other publications.
  • Ensures that all company pilots conform to standards as outlined in the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, company policies and perform to the level of standards outlined by the Company’s training program.
  • Investigates incidents and provides corrective action, if necessary, to crew members failing to perform to standards.
  • Provides leadership and collaboration with other departments to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations and company policy and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of the contents of all manuals associated with Flight Operations.
  • Acts as a liaison with the FAA regarding infractions or and regulatory issues.
  • Collaborates with Republic’s code share partners and individual station management team to identify challenges and promote operational success.
  • Promotes an environment focusing on Pilot professional development, while fostering the Company’s core values and culture throughout the work environment.
  • Screens, interviews, and makes recommendations for hiring potential employees, as required.
  • Coaches and provides leadership, direction, motivation and supervision of Pilots and Base Chief Pilots.
  • Appraises performance, provides performance feedback, takes corrective actions and oversees training and development of Base Chief Pilots.
  • Performs special projects or other duties as assigned or required.
  • Acts as Manager on Duty, as required
  • Acts as Director of Operations in the absence of the Managing Director/Director of Operations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

To serve as Chief Pilot under § 119.69(a) for a certificate holder that only conducts operations for which the pilot in command is required to hold a commercial pilot certificate, a person must hold at least a commercial pilot certificate. If an instrument rating is required for any pilot in command for that certificate holder, the Chief Pilot must also hold an instrument rating. The Chief Pilot must be qualified to serve as pilot in command in at least one aircraft used in the certificate holder’s operation. In addition, the Chief Pilot must:

(1) In the case of a person becoming a Chief Pilot for the first time ever, have at least 3 years experience, within the past 6 years, as pilot in command of an aircraft operated under part 121 or part 135 of this chapter .

(2) In the case of a person with previous experience as a Chief Pilot, have at least 3 years experience as pilot in command of an aircraft operated under part 121 or part 135 of this chapter .

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience as a check airman or instructor.

REGULATORY

  • Able to pass an FAA required 10 year work history review and criminal background and fingerprint checks.
  • Possess and maintain a valid US passport or foreign passport.
  • Authorized by law to work in the United States and able to travel in and out of the United States.
  • Willing to submit to and able to pass FAA and Company mandated random drug and alcohol tests.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
    procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from management,
    crew, passengers and the general public.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only
    limited standardization exists.
  • Capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
    diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat and/or crawl.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must possess the physical strength to reach and operate all emergency equipment and exits using necessary movements and force up to and including 70 pounds.
  • Capable of moving objects up to 40 pounds (flight bag)
  • Capable of lifting objects above shoulders up to and including 35 pounds (passenger carry on luggage).
  • Able to adhere to the visual demands set in the medical standards established by the FAA.
  • Able to hear clearly verbal communications in person, on the telephone and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
  • Possess the stamina needed to work long days with frequent change in temperatures, climate and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to move about the aircraft and perform all required functions freely, effectively and quickly in confined environment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts up to 10% of the time.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel up to 15% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
