Purpose of the Position

The First Officer is entrusted with the critical responsibility of providing a superior air transportation experience, ensuring a safety record second to none on every flight. This role serves as a prominent representative of NetJets, delivering not only technically precise and secure transportation but also an exceptional, concierge-level service experience for every NetJets Owner and passenger. The First Officer is expected to proficiently manage multiple roles, seamlessly transitioning from a professional aviator to an in-flight service provider, maintaining full command of the aircraft and demonstrating a consistently professional demeanor at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safe operation of the aircraft during all phases of flight, including taxi, take-off, and landing, in strict adherence to FAA guidelines, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Checklists, the NetJets Flight Operations Manual (FOM) or Aircraft Operating Manual (AOM), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Greets Owners and passengers prior to flight, conducts introductions, provides comprehensive briefings on the specific flight/trip, verifies itineraries, offers timely weather updates, delivers essential safety briefings, and communicates any changes to the planned itinerary.
  • Provides essential in-flight services, including the responsible handling of alcoholic beverages and the meticulous service of catering.
  • Manages the efficient loading and proper stowage of all passenger baggage on the aircraft.
  • Successfully conducts flights accommodating Owners with pets and those who smoke, ensuring a comfortable and compliant environment for all.
  • Acts as the ultimate authority on their assigned aircraft concerning all operational aspects, including full compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory guidance.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between Owners/passengers and NetJets from the moment of arrival at the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) until safe landing at the final destination and departure from the concluding FBO.
  • Documents and communicates any maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies to the Company's Maintenance Control Center (MCC) Controller for their respective fleet.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork associated with reported maintenance issues and other flight-related documentation.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Possession of a written FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • A current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • An FCC Restricted Radio Operator's Permit.
  • A valid United States passport, enabling unrestricted international travel.
  • A valid State driver's license.

Flight Time Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and possess an FAA ATP, Restricted ATP (R-ATP), or qualify to meet the requirements for an FAA ATP or R-ATP certificate with a multi-engine rating, in accordance with 14 CFR 61.160. This includes:

  • 1,500 hours total flight time, OR
  • 1,250 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate, OR
  • 1,000 hours with military pilot qualification, OR
  • 1,000 hours with another appropriate university R-ATP certificate.
  • 200 hours cross-country flight time (>50 nautical miles).
  • 250 hours fixed-wing Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
  • 100 hours of night flying, or 75 hours with a minimum of 45 night takeoffs and landings.
  • 75 hours of instrument time (actual or simulated in-flight, excluding simulator time).
  • Completion of the ATP written examination prior to the commencement of Indoctrination Training.
  • 50 hours of fixed-wing, multi-engine flight time.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other (KSAOs)

  • Demonstrated ability to work varying hours, including days, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Exceptional flexibility and adaptability to rapid changes in operational plans.
  • Proficient in managing personal rest periods to ensure readiness for flight duty at all times during assigned tours.
  • Capacity to undertake duties lasting up to fourteen hours per day for up to eight consecutive days, potentially spanning different time zones and extreme weather conditions within a single trip.
  • Availability to be away from home for seven or more days and nights, requiring hotel stays.
  • Ability to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, including successful completion of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) required background screening.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and travel in and out of the country without restriction.
  • Fluent proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • A service-oriented mindset, coupled with a neat, well-groomed appearance and a proven ability to make a positive impression and interact effectively with discerning passengers.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, particularly under pressure.
  • Demonstrated capability for quick and accurate decision-making with meticulous attention to detail, encompassing both technical flight operations and passenger service excellence.
  • Physical capability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Comfort and capability to work around animals, including handling and care, before, during, and after Owner flights.
  • Ability to conduct flights for Owners who smoke.

Work Environment & Travel

This First Officer role with NetJets demands a high degree of flexibility and readiness for extensive travel. Duty periods may potentially last up to 14 hours per day for up to eight consecutive days. First Officers should expect significant time away from home, including seven or more days and nights in hotels, while navigating diverse time zones and varying weather conditions. The position requires a disciplined approach to managing rest and adapting to dynamic operational schedules inherent in executive private aviation.

Compensation and Benefits

NetJets offers a highly competitive base salary range of $86,015 - $117,706 for this demanding and rewarding role.
