Position Overview

The Flight Research team at Joby Aviation is seeking a highly skilled Test Pilot. This role will involve operating research and development crewed and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) platforms, with a primary focus on the Cessna Caravan program. The Test Pilot will assume pilot command duties during developmental and operational flight testing for both crewed and UAS operations. Joining a dynamic, fast-paced team, this position will support the comprehensive spectrum of test pilot responsibilities, alongside contributing to engineering development activities.

Location: Concord, CA. Travel is anticipated to be less than 25%, including occasional deployed testing and participation in military exercises.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as both airborne and remote Pilot in Command (PIC) for various R&D aircraft platforms, aligning with program phases.
Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
Maintain and foster a robust safety culture.
Develop comprehensive test plans, cards, and reports.
Conduct thorough data analysis.
Collaborate effectively with fellow crewmembers during test preparation, execution, and post-test activities.
Provide detailed feedback and strategic recommendations for system enhancements.
Actively participate in engineering design initiatives, with a specific emphasis on human interfaces and airspace integration.

Required Qualifications

FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate.
Instrument Airplane rating.
A minimum of 750 hours of Pilot in Command (PIC) flight time.
A minimum of 100 hours of turbine flight time.
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, Engineering preferred.
At least 5 years of experience in aviation operations.
At least 3 years of experience as a test pilot.
Exceptional interpersonal skills.
Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
Proficiency in reading and speaking English.
Willingness to work extended hours.
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for business purposes.

Export Control Compliance: This position is subject to US export control laws. Candidates must qualify as a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, which includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.

Desired Qualifications

Graduate of an SETP recognized Test Pilot School.
FAA Certified Flight Instructor.
Experience in leadership positions within a flight test organization.
C-208 aircraft experience.
Experience with highly automated aircraft.
Experience as an operator/pilot of UAS system(s).

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role includes a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay range for this position is $91,500 - $151,900 annually. The final compensation package will be determined based on relevant job knowledge, skills, and experience.
