Pilot in Command

Position Summary

The Pilot in Command reports directly to the Lead Captain and is accountable for adhering to company operating policies and procedures. This role carries the ultimate responsibility for the safe and efficient execution of all assigned flights. The Pilot in Command exercises full authority over the flight's conduct, ensuring a secure and high-quality experience for all.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Minimum of 4,000 hours of total fixed-wing flight time.
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of multi-engine land flight time.
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time.
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of turbojet flight time.
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of turbine flight time.
  • Minimum of 100 hours of night flight time.
  • Minimum of 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight time.
  • Minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules.
  • Unrestricted willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide.
  • Valid driver's license.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the aircraft, determine flight routes and departure times, and make decisions regarding flight cancellations due to weather or other conditions.
  • Ensure full compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement necessary adjustments to flight plans based on en route conditions, maintaining adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct all flights in a safe and prudent manner, upholding industry and company standards.
  • Accurately complete all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
  • Ensure a thorough understanding with the second in command regarding all aspects of the flight.
  • Record all aircraft discrepancies in the aircraft discrepancy log and promptly report them to the director of maintenance or their designee. Determine deferral or repair needs based on the approved MEL, as directed.
  • Confirm that the flight crew is properly attired and mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintain a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including emergency systems and procedures.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage when necessary or as directed by company management.
  • Obtain current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
  • File or ensure the filing of a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and alternates.
  • Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC), as applicable.
  • Conduct passenger safety briefings or assign this duty to the second in command.
  • Impart knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them for Pilot in Command duties.
  • Complete and send the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
  • Complete and send the End of DAY (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Actively support the open sharing of information on all safety issues and report any safety hazards or concerns.
  • Immediately report any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the chief pilot and director of safety.
  • Delegate duties while retaining ultimate responsibility for those duties.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Represent Jet Aviation internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions of this role. The employee is required to use hands and fingers for handling, feeling, and reaching. The role frequently requires standing, walking, or sitting. The employee may occasionally need to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds above their heads. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment

The work environment may include heavy maintenance areas and upscale customer areas. The noise level is usually moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrival and departure. The employee may be frequently exposed to vibration and occasional fuel fumes. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The hangar environment may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures during certain seasons.
