Pilot in Command

The Pilot in Command reports directly to the Lead Captain, adhering to all company operating policies and procedures. This pivotal role assumes full responsibility for the safe and efficient execution of flight assignments, with a paramount focus on safety, security, and superior quality. The Pilot in Command exercises final authority for the safe conduct of all assigned flights.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • A minimum of 4000 hours of total fixed-wing flight time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours of multi-engine land flight time.
  • A minimum of 2000 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours of turbojet flight time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours of turbine flight time.
  • A minimum of 100 hours of night flight time.
  • A minimum of 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight time.
  • Five years of demonstrable aviation experience.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including irregular hours and extended assignments.
  • Unrestricted willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide.
  • Valid driver's license.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the aircraft, making critical decisions regarding departure times, routes, and potential flight cancellations due to weather or other conditions.
  • Ensure complete adherence to all applicable federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Make necessary in-flight adjustments to maintain compliance with company protocols and rules.
  • Conduct all flights in a safe and prudent manner, upholding industry and company standards.
  • Accurately complete all required trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
  • Ensure the Second in Command is thoroughly briefed on all aspects of the flight.
  • Record all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and promptly report these to the Director of Maintenance or designee.
  • Confirm that all flight crew members are in proper attire and mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of all aircraft systems and emergency procedures associated with the authorized operation of the aircraft.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging for hangar storage as required.
  • Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
  • File or ensure a flight plan is filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyze area, enroute, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and alternates.
  • Perform the duties of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the applicable security program.
  • Conduct passenger safety briefings or assign this duty to the Second in Command.
  • Mentor and train the Second in Command to prepare them for Pilot in Command duties.
  • Complete and transmit the leg manifest to operations control before each departure.
  • Complete and transmit the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control at the end of each flight day.
  • Actively promote the open sharing of information on safety issues, reporting all hazards and concerns immediately.
  • Report any hazardous actions, conduct, or events to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety without delay.
  • Delegate duties as needed, while retaining ultimate responsibility for those duties.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Represent Jet Aviation professionally both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to work in both heavy maintenance and upscale customer environments. The noise level is typically moderate, with occasional high volume when aircraft arrive or depart. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and may encounter fuel fumes occasionally. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The hangar environment may be subject to extreme temperature fluctuations depending on the season.
