Lead Captain

This position reports to the regional chief pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient execution of all assigned flight duties, placing utmost emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Lead Captain exercises Pilot-in-Command authority and bears final responsibility for the safe conduct of all flights. This is a non-commutable position, requiring the ideal candidate to reside within two hours of Burbank Airport.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Must obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • A minimum of 4000 hours total fixed-wing flight time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours of multi-engine land flight time.
  • A minimum of 2000 hours of Pilot-in-Command flight time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours of turbojet flight time.
  • A minimum of 1500 hours of turbine flight time.
  • A minimum of 100 hours of night flight time.
  • A minimum of 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight time.
  • Five years of aviation experience.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules.
  • Willingness to travel extensively worldwide without restrictions.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Main Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and/or cancel flights based on weather or other conditions.
  • Ensure all flights are conducted in full compliance with all applicable federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate aircraft schedules and training with flight crew and customer service representatives, utilizing supplemental crew as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing and maintenance needs.
  • Ensure all assigned crew members submit and review required flight and duty records.
  • Ensure that aircraft manuals and Jeppesen charts/EFBs are current and properly maintained.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Training to coordinate crew member training and check rides based on the annual training calendar.
  • Coordinate crew member time off and training, while maintaining optimal aircraft coverage.
  • Verify that flight crew members report for duty in the proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Mentor and coach crew members to support their professional development.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
  • Attend Lead Captain meetings.
  • Provide assistance to the Account Director as needed.
  • Assist in the hiring of new flight crew members.
  • Implement necessary changes required by en route conditions to ensure flights proceed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Conduct all flights safely and prudently, adhering to industry and company standards.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all trip paperwork following current procedures.
  • Ensure thorough understanding with the second-in-command regarding all aspects of flight operations.
  • Record all aircraft discrepancies in the aircraft discrepancy log, immediately reporting to the director of maintenance or their designee and following the approved MEL.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all aircraft systems, including emergency procedures, for aircraft authorized to operate.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage when deemed necessary.
  • Obtain current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
  • File or ensure the filing of flight plans with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyze area, enroute, and terminal charts for the intended destination and alternate airports.
  • Perform the duties of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the applicable security program.
  • Conduct required passenger safety briefings, or assign this duty to the second-in-command.
  • Impart knowledge and skills to the second-in-command, preparing them for potential Pilot-in-Command duties.
  • Complete and send the leg manifest to operations control before each departure.
  • Complete and submit the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completing each flight day.
  • Actively promote open communication of all safety issues and report all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Report any hazardous action, conduct, or event immediately to the chief pilot and director of safety.
  • Delegate responsibilities, while retaining ultimate accountability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Represent Jet Aviation both internally and externally, engaging with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. The employee will frequently stand, walk, or sit, and occasionally may need to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds above their head. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this role. The employee must be capable of working in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. The typical noise level is moderate, with occasional high volume when aircraft are arriving or departing. The employee will be frequently exposed to vibration and may be occasionally exposed to fuel fumes. The employee must be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions. The hangar environment can experience extreme temperatures during certain times of the year.

Compensation Data

The salary range for this position is $250,000 - $300,000 per year, which is the baseline range for the regional location and does not include any premiums.
