Role Summary

Reporting to the Lead Captain, the Pilot in Command is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, with a strong emphasis on safety, security, and quality. This role exercises Pilot in Command authority on all assigned flights and serves as the final authority for the safe conduct of each flight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and/or cancel flights based on weather or other conditions.
  • Ensure that the flight is conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Institute all necessary changes as required by en route conditions to ensure the flight continues under appropriate company guidelines.
  • Conduct the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards.
  • Accurately complete all trip paperwork according to current procedures.
  • Ensure a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of flight.
  • Record all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately report them to the Director of Maintenance or designee. Refer to the approved MEL and determine deferral or repair needs as directed by the Director of Maintenance or designee, completing the log as required.
  • Determine that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintain a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized to operate, including emergency systems and procedures.
  • Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
  • Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from authorized agencies.
  • File or cause a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
  • Analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
  • Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as applicable under relevant security programs.
  • Conduct the required passenger safety briefings or assign that duty to the Second in Command.
  • Impart knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them to assume the duties of Pilot in Command in an emergency or upon upgrading.
  • Complete and send the leg manifest to ops control prior to each departure.
  • Complete and send the End of DAY (EOD) report to ops control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Take an active role supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Make an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • May delegate duties but not the responsibility for those duties.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Represent Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Must obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical.
  • Minimum 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing.
  • Minimum 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land.
  • Minimum 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command.
  • Minimum 1500 hours Turbojet.
  • Minimum 1500 Turbine time.
  • Minimum 100 hours Night.
  • Minimum 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument.
  • Minimum 5 years of aviation experience.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Willing and able to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or reach. The employee frequently stands, walks, or sits. Occasionally required to climb or balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds above their heads. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus. Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to work in both a heavy maintenance environment and in upscale customer areas. The noise level is usually moderate with occasional high volume when aircraft arrive/depart. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The noise level can be loud. The Hangar environment may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures depending on the season.
