Horizon Air is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Base Chief Pilot to lead its Flight Operations Pilot Bases. This pivotal role, primarily based in Portland, OR, with additional opportunities in Anchorage, AK, Las Vegas, NV, and SeaTac, WA, involves balancing strategic priorities with tactical execution. The Base Chief Pilot is responsible for guiding a team of pilots, implementing Flight Operations strategic goals, and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company policies.

About the Role

The Base Chief Pilot serves as a key people leader, setting professional standards and fostering a high-performance culture within the pilot group. This individual will shape the long-term strategy for base operations while developing talent through effective performance management and succession planning. The role demands exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to build trust between pilots and Horizon Air management, demonstrating fairness, consistency, and reliability. Collaboration with internal and external leaders, including Horizon and Alaska Airlines’ station and inflight leadership, is crucial to upholding the highest safety standards. Key responsibilities include representing the company as a point of contact for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Port, and the United States Postal Service, reviewing and recommending operational policies, and managing delay and operational metrics for the assigned domicile.
