Horizon Air is seeking a Base Chief Pilot to oversee Flight Operations Pilot Bases in Portland, Oregon. This leadership role is responsible for balancing strategic objectives with tactical execution, ensuring safe and compliant operations in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company policies.
About the Role
The Base Chief Pilot leads and establishes priorities for a team of pilots, setting professional standards and providing coaching. This position involves shaping long-term operational strategies, developing talent through performance management and feedback, and fostering a positive team culture. The role requires influencing stakeholders both internally and externally, including representing the company to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Port authorities, and the United States Postal Service. Key responsibilities include reviewing and recommending policies and procedures for flight safety, compliance, and operational efficiency, as well as managing delay and operation metrics for the assigned domicile.
Requirements

5 years of professional pilot experience, with at least 3 years operating under FAA Part 121 or 135 (or equivalent military/other experience).

4 years of leadership experience (e.g., Pilot in Command, Captain, Check Pilot, Instructor).

Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

Ability to become a line-qualified pilot at Horizon Air.

Must possess and maintain a valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the U.S., without a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).

Familiarity with FAA regulations and Pilot Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), with strong technical knowledge of pilot procedures.

Proficiency in operating under pressure and in changing conditions, demonstrating sound professional judgment, time management, and problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated ability to influence change and drive strategic impact and a high-performance culture.

Outstanding communication (verbal, written, listening) and presentation skills, with a commitment to clear and transparent communication.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

High school diploma or equivalent.
