Hawaiian Airlines is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join their 'ohana as Samoan Language Qualified Flight Attendants. A recruitment event will be held in mid-August 2024 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Candidates selected for interviews will receive specific dates and times, subject to change due to operational needs.
Position Summary
The paramount responsibility of a Hawaiian Airlines Flight Attendant is to ensure the safety and well-being of all guests aboard the aircraft. This includes being physically and mentally prepared to execute safety procedures and assist guests in the unlikely event of an emergency. Flight Attendants must be adept at handling challenging situations, interacting with diverse personalities, and working effectively under pressure while maintaining a calm and pleasant demeanor.
Beyond safety, Flight Attendants are ambassadors of Hawaiian hospitality, delivering a consistently high level of customer service throughout every flight. This includes providing food and beverage service with aloha, creating an unforgettable experience for each guest.
Key Responsibilities
- Attending preflight briefings to review critical information: weather conditions, flight path and altitude, emergency procedures, crew coordination, flight duration, food and beverage services, and passenger manifests.
- Warmly greeting and directing guests to their assigned seats, addressing any flight-related inquiries with patience and a welcoming spirit.
- Assisting guests with the safe stowage of carry-on luggage in overhead compartments or designated under-seat areas.
- Providing clear and concise demonstrations of safety equipment, including seat belts, oxygen masks, and life jackets. Explaining emergency procedures before takeoff to ensure guest comprehension.
- Maintaining a vigilant presence in the cabin, ensuring guest adherence to safety regulations. Professionally addressing any safety infractions and effectively diffusing and resolving challenging passenger situations.
- Remaining calm and composed during emergencies, providing clear direction and assistance to guests. This includes efficiently guiding evacuations following an emergency landing.
- Providing a consistent and positive dining experience for guests, delivering food and beverage service according to established procedures.
- Processing onboard transactions for various products, including alcoholic beverages, meals, and duty-free items. Accurately collecting and reconciling payments.
- Administering first aid to guests as needed, responding swiftly and competently to medical situations.
- Meticulously documenting and reporting any emergency or safety incidents that occur during flight, providing detailed written and verbal accounts.
- Preparing the cabin and guests for landing, adhering to all established procedures.
- Maintaining required certifications by satisfactorily completing annual FAA-approved re-certification training provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Obtaining and maintaining an AOA Badge, demonstrating a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning by staying current with emergency procedures, in accordance with Hawaiian Airlines and FAA regulations.
- Adapting to the dynamic demands of the airline industry by maintaining flexibility to work variable schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Exhibiting exceptional interpersonal skills, interacting effectively and professionally with colleagues and guests.
- Working collaboratively with fellow crew members to create a seamless and positive experience for every guest, responding promptly and pleasantly to inquiries, requests, and complaints throughout the flight.

- Maintaining the physical stamina to work variable shifts and fly at high altitudes. This includes meeting all physical demands of the job.
- Providing compassionate assistance to ill or incapacitated passengers and fellow crew members, demonstrating empathy and care.
- Maintaining composure and effectively executing emergency procedures in challenging situations, such as evacuating an aircraft filled with heavy smoke during a cabin fire.
- Confidently handling and operating emergency equipment, including oxygen bottles and fire extinguishers.
- Demonstrating physical strength and preparedness to respond effectively during an emergency, including the ability to remove and lift emergency cabin windows (weighing up to 60 pounds).
- Exhibiting courage and composure in the face of emergencies, including the ability to jump down an emergency slide from a height of approximately 24.5 feet.
It is essential to understand that all outlined job duties, including the aforementioned emergency procedures, are fundamental functions of the Flight Attendant role.
Minimum Requirements
- Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of application.
- A High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Maintaining a professional image is paramount. Visible body art, including tattoos, facial piercings (multiple, upper ear, or gauges), and extreme hair color or styles are not permitted while in uniform or within public areas.
- Exceptional customer service skills are essential, including the ability to effectively diffuse and resolve challenging customer interactions.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is mandatory.
- Applicants must possess advanced/business-level proficiency in reading and speaking Samoan.
- Selected candidates must successfully complete an eight-week, FAA-approved, intensive training program provided by Hawaiian Airlines. Please note that this training is unpaid.
- Geographic flexibility is required, with the ability to relocate within the state of Hawaii or the continental United States.
- Candidates must be available to work variable schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- A vertical reach of 82 inches is necessary.
- Applicants must be able to comfortably sit in a cabin crew jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness securely fastened.
- Passing a tuberculosis (TB) test is a requirement for employment.
- All selected candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug test.
- Applicants must possess legal authorization to work in the United States.
- A valid passport is required, and applicants must be eligible to secure applicable visas for travel to all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines.
- Legal right to travel from all countries served by Hawaiian Airlines is mandatory.
- Travel documents must remain valid throughout all phases of training and employment.
- Flight Attendants operate in an environment with varying climatic conditions, variable positive and negative gravitational loads induced by turbulence, and varying levels of cabin pressurization.
- The job requires extended periods of standing, up to four to seventeen hours, during which stooping, twisting, pulling, and pushing cabin equipment may be necessary.
- Internal candidates must be in good standing with the company.
Important Regulatory Information
- Drug & Alcohol Testing: In compliance with Department of Transportation regulations (49 CFR part 40), all applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted. This testing screens for the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine. It is important to note that failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will automatically disqualify an applicant from employment with Hawaiian Airlines, resulting in the withdrawal of any employment offer.
- Citizenship Verification: U.S.-based airlines are required to gather information to validate country of citizenship and country of birth. Upon hire, you must provide documentation proving your current country of citizenship and birthplace.
- Employment Sponsorship: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, for any employer, without the need for sponsorship. Hawaiian Airlines does not offer sponsorship for nonimmigrant or immigrant employment visas or status for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Two or more years of direct customer experience within the hospitality or airline industry. Alternatively, four years of experience in customer contact and customer service issue resolution with the general public in industries such as retail, education, healthcare, or professional services is highly valuable.
- College education or a degree is a plus.
