Role Summary

The First Officer serves as a critical member of the flight crew, primarily responsible for ensuring the safe conduct of each journey and delivering a positive, professional experience for all guests. This position requires maintaining an unwavering commitment to professionalism at all times and is represented by a union.

Key Responsibilities

The First Officer performs essential duties, including but not limited to:

  • Operating as Second in Command for the transport of passengers, mail, freight, and other commercial purposes.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company Flight Procedures, and Company Policies on scheduled flights and routes to guarantee safety of flight.
  • Conducting all business interactions with the utmost professionalism and appropriate demeanor.
  • Operating Company aircraft in adherence to established Qualification Standards and all Flight Manual operating procedures and policies.
  • Effectively communicating with all required agencies and personnel, maintaining Company Communication Practices.
  • Possessing knowledge commensurate with the holder of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, including comprehensive understanding of all aspects of applicable FARs and the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM).

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications (Common to all Applicants)

All applicants for the First Officer position must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of total documented flight time.
  • A current First Class FAA Medical Certificate.
  • Minimum of 500 hours of fixed-wing turbine time (airplane and powered lift combined).
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a current passport with unlimited access in and out of the United States, with at least six months of validity remaining at the time of employment. Non-U.S. passport holders will also require appropriate travel documentation.
  • Ability to travel immediately and repeatedly to any domestic or international location served by Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Possession of a valid Driver’s License issued by a U.S. state or territory.
  • Demonstrated excellent judgment, leadership skills, commandability, and maturity.
  • A professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Minimum age of 23 years.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Seniority List Specific Requirements

Alaska Airlines Seniority List Applicants:

  • FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument-Airplane rating.
  • All aeronautical experience requirements for an ATP, Airplane category rating, as set forth in 14 CFR §61.159.
  • A current ATP written exam.
  • Comfortable with potential domiciles in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; and San Francisco, CA.

Hawaiian Airlines Seniority List Applicants:

  • FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certified, Airplane Multiengine Land with English proficient endorsement.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Comfortable with potential domiciles in Seattle, WA; Honolulu, HI; and Cincinnati, OH.

Highly Desired Qualifications (Preferred)

Candidates possessing the following qualifications may be given preference:

  • A four-year degree from an accredited university.
  • 500 hours of multi-engine airplane time.
  • Minimum of 50 hours of flight time within the last 12 months.
  • 500 hours of turbine Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
  • Extensive turbojet or turboprop experience in a complex flying environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Details (First Year, Per Contract)

  • Alaska Airlines Seniority List Pay:
    • First-year pay rate: $124.72 per hour.
    • Monthly pay guarantee: 70 hours.
    • Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 84 hours (short call).
  • Hawaiian Airlines Seniority List Pay:
    • First-year pay rate: $87.00 per hour.
    • Monthly pay guarantee: 75 hours.
    • Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 75 hours (short call).

This role’s compensation is governed by a collective bargaining agreement.
