Role Summary
The First Officer is entrusted with the critical responsibility of ensuring a safe and positive journey for all guests. Key Responsibilities
The First Officer performs as Second in Command, undertaking a range of essential duties to maintain the highest standards of flight operations:
- Acts as Second in Command in the transport of passengers, mail, freight, and for other commercial aviation purposes.
- Ensures absolute compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Company Flight Procedures, and Company Policies on all scheduled flights and routes, prioritizing the safety of flight.
- Conducts all business interactions with an exemplary professional manner and demeanor.
- Operates Company aircraft in strict adherence to established Qualification Standards and all Flight Manual operating procedures and policies.
- Facilitates clear and effective communication with all required agencies and personnel, aligning with Company Communication Practices.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge commensurate with an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate holder, including thorough understanding of all applicable FARs and the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM).
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Common Requirements for Alaska Airlines & Hawaiian Airlines Seniority Lists:
- Minimum of 1,500 hours of total documented flight time.
- Possession of a current First Class FAA Medical Certificate.
- Minimum of 500 hours of fixed-wing turbine time (airplane and powered lift combined).
- Must possess or obtain a current passport with unlimited access in and out of the United States, with at least six months of validity remaining at the time of employment. Employees with non-U.S. passports will also require appropriate travel documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to travel immediately and repeatedly to any domestic or international location served by Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License issued by a U.S. state or U.S. territory.
- Exemplary judgment, leadership skills, demonstrated commandability, and maturity.
- Professional demeanor and appearance are consistently maintained.
- Ability to utilize sound judgment in decision-making processes.
- Proven ability to maintain composure effectively under pressure.
- Minimum age of 23 years.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Specific Requirements for Alaska Airlines Seniority List:
Required:
- An FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument-Airplane rating.
- Fulfillment of all aeronautical experience requirements for an ATP, Airplane category rating, as stipulated in 14 CFR §61.159.
- A current, valid ATP written exam pass.
- Comfortability with a potential domicile assignment in Seattle, WA; Los Angeles, CA; Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; or San Francisco, CA.
Preferred:
- A four-year degree from an accredited university.
- Possession of an FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate.
- 500 hours of multi-engine airplane time.
- Minimum of 50 hours of flight time within the last 12 months.
- 500 hours of turbine Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.

Required:
- FAA ATP certified, Airplane Multiengine Land with an English proficient endorsement.
- Comfortability with a potential domicile assignment in Seattle, WA; Honolulu, HI; or Cincinnati, OH.

- 500 hours of multi-engine airplane time.
- Minimum of 50 hours of flight time within the last 12 months.

Compensation and Total Rewards
Salary Details:
Compensation for this role is determined by the respective collective bargaining agreements. Illustrative first-year pay rates and guarantees are provided below:
Alaska Seniority List Pay Details:
- First year pay rate: $124.72 per hour (as per contract)
- Monthly pay guarantee: 70 hours
- Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 84 hours (short call)
Hawaiian Seniority List Pay Details:
- First year pay rate: $87.00 per hour (as per contract)
- Monthly pay guarantee: 75 hours
- Reserve pay guarantee: 75 hours (long call); 75 hours (short call)
