SkillBridge RS Avionics Electrical Technician III (Multiple Locations)
This role is offered in multiple locations, providing an opportunity for skilled military service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program. The SkillBridge RS Avionics Electrical Technician III provides expert technical support in the operational and functional testing, troubleshooting, and repair of avionics and electrical systems on advanced aircraft. This position is crucial in ensuring aircraft safety, quality, and airworthiness while contributing to efficient maintenance operations.
SkillBridge Program Eligibility Requirements:
Participation in this program is strictly limited to individuals who meet and maintain eligibility for the DOD SkillBridge Program.
- Must have 180 days of service or fewer remaining prior to the date of discharge.
- Must have at least 180 continuous days of active military service.
- Unit commander approval is required.
- Participation in the DOD SkillBridge Program may be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.
- Preferred program duration: at least 90 days, with a maximum of 180 days.
- Military service members participating in a SkillBridge program are not eligible for wages or other benefits from the company.
Position Purpose:
The Avionics Electrical Technician III provides technical expertise to perform operational and functional tests and repairs on avionics, electrical, aircraft equipment, and systems, ensuring a defect-free aircraft. The technician demonstrates superior technical expertise in testing, troubleshooting, and repairing system discrepancies to minimize schedule impact. This role involves defining and implementing process changes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs without compromising safety or quality standards.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates superior technical skills and expertise in avionics and aircraft systems operational testing and troubleshooting.
- Instructs others on the installation and functional testing of electrical/avionics components and systems according to engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals, ensuring a defect-free system.
- Ensures quality and efficiency of all installations; troubleshoots and instructs troubleshooting processes/concepts to provide timely, quality repairs of malfunctioning systems.
- Demonstrates the skills and knowledge required to effectively and efficiently repair or replace defective components and wiring to ensure installations meet conformity.
- Demonstrates effective repair techniques using acceptable practices including splicing, soldering, and pinning of wiring.
- Oversees the performance of and compliance with engineering changes and modifications as required.
- Sets up and operates necessary test equipment.
- Conducts functional and operational tests to evaluate performance and reliability.
- Demonstrates diligent compliance in maintaining daily logs and other required paperwork.
- Ensures that all work performed on the aircraft is properly and completely documented.
- As required, pre-inspects the work of others prior to submitting to inspection for approval to reduce rework and inspection time.
- Provides knowledge and technical expertise in testing and maintaining test equipment and electronic systems and components as required.
- Enforces company programs such as the FOD program, tool control program, and 5-S program, as well as all safety regulations.
- Adapts effectively to sudden schedule changes.
- Coordinates with other disciplines concerning projects.
Additional Functions:
- May instruct on the installation and functional testing of electrical/avionics components and systems per engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals.
- May possess self-inspection capability for avionics testing functions in applicable areas.
- In support of aircraft certification and final phase testing, may include participation in flight tests on aircraft as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 5 years of experience in an avionics/electrical career field. (2 years of accredited schooling in aviation electronics may offset two years of experience).
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and schematic diagrams.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must meet stated Education and Experience requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A & P license, FCC license, or NCATT certification.
- Proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting of other aircraft systems or disciplines in addition to avionics, such as hydraulics, landing gear, flight controls, environmental controls, or structural installations and repairs.
- APU run qualification and engine run qualification.
