Pilot in Command (PIC) – Corporate Aviation Captain

Position Summary

A premier corporate flight department seeks a highly skilled and experienced Pilot in Command (PIC). This critical leadership role is central to operational safety and executive service, requiring the utmost adherence to all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), organizational policies, and standard operating procedures. The PIC serves as the final authority for the assigned aircraft's operation, expertly managing all phases of flight, from complex planning and risk analysis to flawless crew coordination and superior passenger experience. This demanding position requires exceptional technical mastery, decisive leadership, and an unwavering commitment to safety excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Pilot in Command executes and oversees the following core functions:

  • Flight Operations Leadership: Acts definitively as the Pilot in Command, assuming final authority for the safe and efficient execution of all assigned corporate flights. The PIC ensures strict compliance with all FAA regulations, company Flight Operations Manuals, and global Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Comprehensive Pre-flight Planning: Executes thorough pre-flight preparation, including detailed weather analysis, accurate performance calculations, optimized routing, critical fuel planning, and meticulous aircraft airworthiness confirmations.
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM): Champions a high level of crew coordination, communication, and professionalism across all phases of flight. The PIC leads the flight crew, fostering a proactive culture of teamwork, efficiency, and safety management.
  • Executive Passenger Service: Delivers the highest standard of customer service, ensuring the safety, comfort, and ultimate satisfaction of all passengers. The PIC serves as the primary point of contact for clients inflight, expertly managing requests and addressing operational concerns.
  • Safety Management System (SMS) Engagement: Actively participates in the company’s Safety Management System (SMS), promoting a proactive and transparent safety culture. Responsibilities include identifying and mitigating operational risks through advanced analysis tools and participating in scheduled safety audits and corrective action processes.
  • Mentorship and Development: Provides professional guidance and mentorship to First Officers and other flight crew members. Ensures that all personnel understand their roles and responsibilities, offering clear direction and constructive feedback to facilitate career growth.
  • Post-flight Administration: Completes all mandatory post-flight documentation, including accurate trip reports, official logbook entries, and detailed maintenance or operational notes. Promptly reports any identified safety concerns or equipment discrepancies to the maintenance organization.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Maintains complete currency with all required training, medical certifications, and regulatory mandates. Ensures all required flight crew records are meticulously documented and updated in compliance with FAA standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Flight Experience

  • Minimum of 5,000 total flight hours.
  • A minimum of 2,500 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC).
  • At least 2,500 hours multi-engine land, including 1,500 hours as multi-engine PIC.
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours in turbine aircraft.
  • Minimum of 500 hours instrument time.

Certifications and Licensing

  • Required: Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with a multi-engine land rating.
  • Required: Current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Preferred: FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s Permit.

Skills and Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), advanced flight planning methodologies, and modern Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and Crew Resource Management (CRM) skills, with a proven ability to exercise sound and decisive judgment under pressure.
  • Proficiency in utilizing contemporary flight planning and aviation management software platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous operational experience within demanding Part 135 charter environments is highly desirable.

This is an exempt position, requiring significant flexibility to meet the dynamic and often unpredictable demands of executive corporate aviation.
