Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) is a world-leading charity at the forefront of Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). It costs £15.2M a year to operate this cutting edge, innovative service with 86% of the total income raised through the incredible generosity of KSS's supporters.
KSS serves a population of 4.8M people plus a transient population of 90M people. Over the past three decades they have been tasked to over 38,000 incidents, saving lives and improving patient outcomes from the skies above Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Time is critical in pre-hospital emergency medicine, which is why KSS’s fleet of helicopters and Rapid Response Vehicles can transport their doctors and paramedics to patients 24/7, 365 days a year.

/ Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:
  • Provide safe, compliant and efficient flight operations in support of HEMS operations;
  • Conduct Company duties with diligence and professionalism, and operate in accordance with the Company operations manual and other regulatory requirements;
  • Be responsible for actively engaging with the Company safety reporting scheme, taking a pro-active stance on risk management, reporting all reportable occurrences, and reporting any other events which may contribute towards continual improvement in safety;
  • Display kindness and professionalism whilst acting as a representative of the Company and actively engage with our charity partners and other industry stakeholders.
  • All candidates will be required to hold a UK CAA CPL(H) with ATPL theory exams, or a UK CAA ATPL(H). An instrument rating revalidated within the previous 6 years is required for all roles.
Please Note: Rostering in accordance with applicable FTL Scheme. Applicants shall be required to live, or be willing to find suitable accommodation with the maximum travelling time of the unit as required by the applicable FTL scheme. / Minimum Requirements:
  • UK CAA Part-FCL ATPL (H) or CPL(H) with Class 1 Medical privileges
  • Valid Instrument Rating
  • Level 6 English Language Proficiency (as shown on your licence)
  • EU/UK Driving Licence
  • Right to live and work in the UK
  • Meet the minimum requirements for a HEMS Commander as stated within the Gama OM
  • 1000 HRS PIC/ Commander of which 500 HRS are as PIC/ Commander in helicopters
  • MP type rating or evidence of UK CAA Part-FCL ATPL theoretical credits
  • 70 HRS PIC
  • 500 hours of total time operating in twin turbine helicopters in an operational environment similar to the intended operation
  • Experienced working on a rostered basis including working night shifts
/ Desirable Requirements:
  • 2000 HRS total time
  • AW169 Type Rating
  • NVG experience
/ To be considered for a role you are required to:
  • Be eligible to work in the UK;
  • Live in the UK or be willing to relocate for the role;
  • Hold ICAO level 6 English language proficiency;
  • Declare any disqualifying convictions, which may effect your ability to pass civil and military security and criminal background checks;
  • Declare any dual nationality.
  • All candidates will be required to hold a UK CAA CPL(H) with ATPL theory exams, or an ATPL(H). An instrument rating revalidated within the previous 6 years is required for all roles.​
None of the roles are suitable for commuting from abroad.
