Job Title: FAA Flight Program Operations Pilot (2181 Series)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified pilots to join its Flight Program Operations team. This organization plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and integrity of the national airspace system. Pilots perform diverse missions, including routine inspection of navigational aids, commissioning new equipment globally, conducting research, development, test, and evaluation of avionics, and supporting critical government transportation and response missions.

This position is part of a Part 135 certificate holder with primary office locations in Arlington, VA; Kennesaw, GA; Atlantic City, NJ; Battle Creek, MI; Oklahoma City, OK; Fort Worth, TX; Sacramento, CA; and Anchorage, AK.

Conditions of Employment

  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Financial disclosure filing may be required within 30 days of entry on duty.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements as documented on FAA Form 3330-47-3:

  • Certificates and Ratings: Valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. Must hold a valid first or second-class medical certificate (First Class required prior to appointment).
  • Total Flight Time: 1500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Time: 250 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Flight Time (Last 12 Months): 100 hours.
  • Multi-engine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (at least 10 hours must be in actual instrument weather).

Note: To qualify at the FV-J (FG-14) level, applicants must possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) Credential.

While formal KSA narratives are not required, candidates must include specific examples within their work history that demonstrate their ability to meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position. Additional Information

Positions are filled under the FAA Core Compensation plan. Promotion potential exists if filled at the FV-I level to the FV-J level, subject to qualification and training requirements.
