Position Summary
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified candidates for the 2181 series to support Flight Program Operations. This position plays a critical role in the safety and integrity of the national airspace system, conducting missions that include inspection of navigational aids, commissioning new equipment, research, development, test and evaluation, and critical event response. This is a Part 135 certificate holder operation with multiple duty locations across the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Selected pilots will perform diverse aviation missions, including:

Routine inspections of ground-based navigational aids.

Commissioning of new aviation equipment at domestic and international airports.

Research, development, test, and evaluation missions using advanced avionics technology.

Transportation and critical event response missions in support of government agencies and the public.

Ensuring operational safety and efficiency in various weather conditions.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following certification and flight hour requirements:

Certificates and Ratings:
Valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings, OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. (Candidates without an ATP must complete the written exam within 60 days of appointment).

Medical Certificate:
Valid First or Second-class medical certificate. (Selected candidates must obtain a First Class certificate prior to appointment).

Total Flight Time:
1,500 hours.

Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Time:
250 hours.

Multi-Engine Airplane Time:
500 hours.
-
Instrument Time:
75 hours (minimum of 10 hours must be actual instrument weather).

Night Flying Time:
75 hours.
-
Recent Flight Experience:
100 hours within the last 12 months.
Note: To qualify at the FV-J (FG-14) level, applicants must possess an ATP certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) credential.
Conditions of Employment

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Must submit to designated or random drug testing; position is covered by the DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.

A one-year probationary period may be required.

Financial disclosure statement may be required within 30 days of appointment.
