Aviation Pilot / Flight Program Operations

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently seeking qualified pilots to join the Flight Program Operations team. As a part 135 certificate holder with a national footprint, this unique government organization manages diverse missions vital to the safety and integrity of the national airspace system. From routine navigational aid inspections to cutting-edge research, development, and flight test evaluations, our pilots ensure the efficacy of aviation operations globally.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will support the FAA’s oversight of the aviation industry by performing critical missions, including ground-based navigational aid inspections, equipment commissioning, flight testing of new procedures, and transportation and critical event response missions in support of other government agencies.

Employment Conditions

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Subject to designated or random drug testing.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must possess the appropriate FAA pilot certificates and/or military ratings. Qualifications include:

  • Certificates: Valid Commercial pilot certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings; OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. (Candidates without an ATP must complete the written exam within 60 days of appointment).
  • Medical: A valid first or second-class medical certificate is required (a first-class certificate must be obtained prior to appointment).
  • Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Time: 250 hours.
  • Multi-engine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (minimum 10 hours must be actual instrument weather).
  • Recent Experience: 100 hours within the last 12 months.

Note: To qualify at the FV-J (FG-14) level, applicants must possess an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) Credential.

Eligible candidates will be evaluated based on the application package and FAA Form 3330-47-3 ASIP. Applicants must provide detailed work history examples that demonstrate proficiency in all relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA). All documentation must be submitted through the official online portal by the vacancy closing date.

Positions are available across multiple locations, including Arlington, VA; Kennesaw, GA; Atlantic City, NJ; Battle Creek, MI; Oklahoma City, OK; Fort Worth, TX; Sacramento, CA; and Anchorage, AK. This position is covered by the FAA Core Compensation plan and may be eligible for Permanent Change of Station (PCS) benefits.
