Aviation Pilot / Flight Program Operations

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified pilots for its Flight Program Operations team. As a part 135 certificate holder, the organization supports critical national missions, including the inspection of navigational aids, commissioning of new equipment, research and development, and emergency response. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety and integrity of the national airspace system.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The selected candidate will perform a variety of flight operations, including routine inspections, flight testing of new procedures, and critical event response. Pilots operate across diverse environments and conditions to ensure the continued efficiency and safety of the American aviation industry and national security.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following mandatory requirements by the closing date of the announcement:

  • Certificates and Ratings: Valid Commercial Pilot Certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings, OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating. (Note: Candidates without an ATP certificate must pass the ATP written exam within 60 days of appointment).
  • Medical Certificate: Valid first or second-class medical certificate (Selected candidates must obtain a first-class medical certificate prior to appointment).
  • Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours (Pilot in command or copilot).
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Time: 250 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Flight Time (Last 12 Months): 100 hours.
  • Multi-Engine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (minimum of 10 hours in actual instrument weather).

Note: To qualify at the FV-J (FG-14) level, applicants must possess an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) Credential.

Conditions of Employment

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Designated or random drug testing is required.
  • Successful completion of a security investigation may be required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Candidates may be required to file a financial disclosure statement.
