Position Summary

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking qualified candidates for the 2181 series to support Flight Program Operations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the safety and integrity of the national airspace system. FAA pilots conduct diverse missions, including inspection of ground-based navigational aids, commissioning of new equipment, research and development, flight testing of avionics and procedures, and critical event response for government agencies.

This is a Part 135 certificate holder role with multiple regional office locations, including Arlington, VA; Kennesaw, GA; Atlantic City, NJ; Battle Creek, MI; Oklahoma City, OK; Fort Worth, TX; Sacramento, CA; and Anchorage, AK.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Subject to designated or random drug testing.
  • May require successful completion of a security investigation.
  • May require a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications and Flight Hour Requirements

Candidates must possess the appropriate FAA pilot certificates and/or military ratings. Eligibility is verified via FAA Form 3330-47-3 ASIP (10/98).

Certificates and Ratings

  • Valid Commercial pilot certificate with airplane, multi-engine land, and instrument ratings OR an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with multi-engine land rating.
  • Valid first or second-class medical certificate (Selected candidates must obtain a first-class medical certificate prior to appointment).
  • Note: Candidates without an ATP certificate must successfully complete the ATP written exam within 60 days of appointment.
  • Note: To qualify at the FV-J (FG-14) level, applicants must possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) and an Airspace Inspection Pilot (ASIP) credential.

Flight Experience Requirements

  • Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours.
  • Pilot-in-Command Time: 250 hours.
  • Night Flying Time: 75 hours.
  • Flying Time (Last 12 Months): 100 hours.
  • Multiengine Airplane Time: 500 hours.
  • Instrument Time: 75 hours (minimum of 10 hours must be actual instrument weather).

In lieu of traditional KSA narratives, applicants must include specific examples within their work history that demonstrate their ability to meet the requirements for each KSA.
