Position Type: Full-time

Location: Camarillo, CA (KCMA)

Operation: Part 91, approximately 350-400 flight hours annually.

Compensation: $385,000.00 - $405,000.00

Benefits: Fully paid medical, dental, and vision premiums for employees in full-time assigned crew positions.

Candidates are required to be type-rated and reside within a 2-hour drivable commuting distance to KCMA.

Position Overview

The Lead Captain serves as a key flight crewmember and is responsible for fostering effective communication between the account, its stakeholders, and Clay Lacy Aviation. This role ensures seamless collaboration with the Account Manager (ACM), Director of Maintenance (DOM), Director of Training, Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP), and Trip Support Specialists. The Lead Captain upholds crew compliance with all applicable regulations, directives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Responsibilities include assisting with training event coordination, reviewing expense reports and invoices, and managing crew member schedules to facilitate positive working relationships and perpetuate Clay Lacy Aviation's company culture and ideals within the flight department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC) as assigned.
  • Ensure strict adherence to flight and maintenance schedules and all directives governing aircraft operation.
  • Guarantee crew compliance with flight and duty time limitations as outlined in the GOM (General Operations Manual), or reasonably adhere to Part 135 standards if operating under Part 91.
  • Execute pre-flight and post-flight duties and inspections in accordance with the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM).
  • Coordinate with the DOM and ACM to ensure aircraft cleanliness is maintained as necessary or scheduled.
  • Manage aircraft inventory to fulfill owner or user requirements, potentially in conjunction with a Cabin Attendant.
  • Monitor crew member performance and provide feedback to the Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP) for annual performance reviews.
  • Complete and approve crew expense reports in accordance with Clay Lacy Aviation policy.
  • Review monthly billing summaries and report any discrepancies to accounting and the ACM.
  • Coordinate and manage crew member days off and vacation requests, relaying them to the ACP for schedule inclusion. Communicate with the ACM for owner approval when required.
  • Serve as a liaison with the ACP and Director of Training.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of crew currency and upcoming training or evaluation requirements.
  • Perform annual aircraft black book audits in collaboration with Flight Operations and the ACP.
  • Ensure compliance with all fleet requirements, including SOPs and necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the aircraft's installed equipment and all required regulatory operational authorizations and mandates.

Maintenance Related Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
  • Assist Clay Lacy Aviation in resolving and communicating mechanical Aircraft On Ground (AOG) events when necessary.
  • Review monthly work order invoices.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Maintenance Controller (or DOM if assigned) on all maintenance-related items and squawks to ensure effective communication of maintenance scheduling, including the scheduling specialist and ACM.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure all trip-related requests or changes from the aircraft owner or charter client are promptly communicated to the Charter Department and the Chief Pilot's office.
  • Assist in gathering operationally related data for special projects or reporting as requested.
  • Mediate and facilitate strong working relationships within the Flight Department.
  • Cultivate and maintain excellent working relationships with all external stakeholders and Clay Lacy Aviation.
  • Champion the perpetuation of Clay Lacy Aviation's company culture among Flight Department members.
  • Provide constructive feedback through the ACM or the Safety Management System (SMS) to enhance process and procedural efficiency within Clay Lacy Aviation.
  • Collaborate with the Clay Lacy Aviation ACM in managing the overall aircraft owner experience.
  • Update the Scheduling Specialist regarding aircraft schedule changes and other matters impacting the scheduling of aircraft, crews, or contract pilots/cabin attendants.
  • Coordinate with the ACM, DOM, and Scheduling Specialist for regular flight department meetings to discuss activities, maintenance events, budget, problem identification, information dissemination, and the development of future improvement projects and goals.
  • In conjunction with the ACP/Chief Pilots, participate in the interview and selection process for all flight department personnel.
  • Communicate with the ACM for input and/or approval on all operational, personnel, and administrative issues.
  • Make recommendations to the ACM and ACP for additional training for flight department members (e.g., conferences, safety training, industry events).

Required Qualifications

  • Gulfstream G650 type rating.
  • Valid First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Proficiency in applicable FAA Part 91 and/or FAA Part 135 requirements for the assigned aircraft type.
  • ATP certificate required and must remain current with flight requirements.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Reside within a 2-hour drivable commuting distance to Camarillo, CA (KCMA).
