Position Overview
Clay Lacy Aviation is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Lead Captain to join its esteemed flight department. In this critical role, the Lead Captain serves as a key liaison between the account, the flight crew, and Clay Lacy Aviation management, including Account Managers (ACM), Directors of Operations (DOM), Directors of Training, Assistant Chief Pilots (ACP), and Trip Support Specialists. The Lead Captain is instrumental in ensuring strict adherence to all applicable regulations, directives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position also involves coordinating training initiatives, reviewing expense reports and invoices, and actively participating in the management of crew schedules. A core responsibility is to cultivate and perpetuate a positive company culture and uphold Clay Lacy Aviation's ideals within the flight department.
Key Position Details:
- Position: Lead Captain
- Aircraft: Gulfstream G600
- Position Type: Full-Time Only (No Contract)
- Location: Oxford, CT (KOXC)
- Operational Mission: Part 91 & 135 Operations (approximately 300 total flight hours annually, split between 150 hours each)
- Compensation & Benefits: $340,000 - $380,000 annually, with fully paid medical/healthcare premiums.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC) as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with flight and maintenance schedules, and all other directives governing aircraft operation.
- Guarantee crew adherence to flight and duty time limitations as stipulated in the General Operations Manual (GOM) for Part 135 operations, or diligently adhere to Part 135 standards for Part 91 operations.
- Execute pre-flight and post-flight duties and inspections in accordance with the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM).
- Collaborate with the DOM and ACM to ensure aircraft cleanliness is maintained as scheduled or required.
- Manage aircraft inventory to meet owner or user specifications, which may be delegated to a Cabin Attendant.
- Monitor crew member performance and provide feedback to the Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP) for annual performance reviews.
- Complete and approve crew expense reports in compliance with Clay Lacy Aviation policies.
- Review monthly billing summaries and report any discrepancies to accounting and the ACM.
- Coordinate and manage crew member days off and vacation requests, relaying information to the ACP for schedule inclusion.
- Communicate with the ACM for owner approval of time off requests when necessary.
- Act as a liaison with the ACP and Director of Training.
- Conduct monthly reviews of crew currency and upcoming training/evaluation requirements.
- Perform annual aircraft black book audits in collaboration with Flight Operations and the ACP.
- Ensure compliance with fleet requirements, including SOPs and necessary documentation.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the aircraft's installed equipment and all required regulatory aircraft operational authorizations and mandates.
Maintenance Related Responsibilities:
- Be informed of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
- Assist Clay Lacy Aviation in the resolution and communication of Aircraft on Ground (AOG) mechanical events when required.
- Review monthly work order invoices.
- Coordinate and communicate with the Maintenance Controller (or DOM if assigned) regarding any maintenance-related items or squawks to ensure effective communication of all maintenance scheduling, including with the scheduling specialist and ACM.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensure all trip-related requests or changes from the aircraft owner or charter client are promptly communicated to the Charter Department and the Chief Pilot's office.
- Assist in gathering operationally-related data for special projects or reporting as requested.
- Mediate and foster constructive working relationships within the Flight Department.
- Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with all external stakeholders and Clay Lacy Aviation.
- Promote and perpetuate the Clay Lacy Aviation company culture among Flight Department members.
- Provide constructive feedback to enhance process and procedure efficiency within Clay Lacy Aviation, communicating through the ACM or the Safety Management System (SMS) as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Clay Lacy Aviation ACM in the management of the Aircraft Owner's overall experience.
- Perform other duties as required to support Clay Lacy Aviation and the aircraft owner, including updating the Scheduling Specialist on aircraft schedule changes and other relevant matters affecting aircraft, crew, or contract pilot/cabin attendant scheduling.
- Coordinate with the ACM, DOM, Scheduling Specialist, and managed billing to conduct regular flight department meetings to discuss and manage activities, maintenance events, budgets, identify issues, answer questions, convey owner feedback, and develop future improvement projects and goals.
- In conjunction with the ACP/Chief Pilots, participate in the interview process and selection of all flight department personnel.
- Communicate with the ACM for input and/or approval on all operational, personnel, and administrative matters.
- Make recommendations for additional training for flight department members to the ACM and ACP, such as conferences, safety training, and industry events.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Lead Captains must possess the minimum experience required to safely operate the assigned aircraft in strict compliance with the company's Operational Specifications, General Operations Manual, and Flight Operations Manual, while also meeting all account management requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Applicable FAA Part 91 and/or FAA Part 135 requirements for the assigned aircraft type.
- Must maintain currency with all flight requirements; an ATP certificate is required.
- Valid First Class Medical Certificate is required.
- Gulfstream GVII Type Rating is required.
- Candidates must be type-rated and reside within a 2-hour drivable commuting distance to KOXC.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background checks is mandatory.
