Overview
A leading provider of aviation training is seeking a dedicated Grob 120TP Flight Instructor to support the U.S. Army Fixed Wing Program and future aviation training initiatives. This vital role involves delivering comprehensive student pilot training on the Grob G120TP aircraft and associated training devices. Reporting to the Chief Pilot/Grob Deputy Chief Pilot, the instructor will be instrumental in conducting classroom, simulator, practical, and in-aircraft training sessions, ensuring adherence to the highest safety and quality standards. The position offers opportunities for continuous professional development, including specialized Upset Prevention and Recovery Training.
Responsibilities
The Grob 120TP Flight Instructor performs core duties as an instructor pilot, developing and delivering training materials and sessions. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting Grob G120TP Aircraft Systems and Operational Procedures instruction across various environments (aircraft, classroom, simulator, practical).
- Serving as a Subject Matter Expert to assist in curriculum development for new type courses.
- Interfacing with program personnel, customers, and internal staff to ensure quality assurance and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Potentially performing additional administrative duties such as managing publications, supporting safety initiatives, conducting quality audits, maintaining FCIF records, and assisting with scheduling.
- Ensuring a safe and secure work environment is maintained at all times.
- Operating in strict compliance with all corporate policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Required:
- Minimum 1000 hours of total airplane pilot time.
- Minimum 500 hours of flight instructor time.
- Valid FAA Commercial Single Engine Land (SEL) Pilot’s License.
- Valid FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating with Instrument Airplane (CFII) rating, or a verified military equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA Class II Flight Medical Certificate.
- Possess all required FAA ratings (Commercial, Single Engine, Instrument Airplane, and CFI) upon hire date, or demonstrate the ability to readily obtain them, including through the military competency process with the FAA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.
- Ability to effectively deliver engaging oral presentations to management and customers.
- Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work overtime and accommodate varying shift schedules, including weekends, as required.
- Essential understanding of military protocols and customs.
- Eligibility for a DoD Personal Secret Security Clearance.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in all-attitude, all-envelope flight regimes (e.g., military flight instruction, tactical/fighter pilot, aerobatics, test pilot school graduate with spin testing experience).
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The role requires physical agility to access aircraft and simulator cockpits, involving activities such as walking, climbing stairs/ladders, stooping, bending, and crawling. While primarily office-based communication will occur, the position involves working in environments inherent to flight training. This includes potential exposure to noise, temperature variations, airborne particles, and hazards associated with proximity to mechanical and hydraulic systems. Physical stamina may be necessary to perform duties during specific flight profiles, such as aerobatics.
